Maths Transition Materials

These materials are provided by the mathematics department to give you a flavour of what to expect in maths when you join Hillhead High School. Please do not worry if your son/daughter is unable to complete them as we will revisit this content in August. However, if they wish to work through them and they want a bit of support, please email Mr Carson (gw11carsonthomas3@glow.sch.uk) who can give them a bit of guidance.

The materials are as follows:

Problem Book 0 – Problem Books 1 to 12 cover our curriculum from S1 to S6! Problem Book 0 has been created to give you a taste of this area of our work. These problems are to be enjoyed over a long period of time so your son/daughter does not need to rush through them. We would be excited to hear any ideas they might have for solving them in August.

Whole Numbers Textbook – Whole Numbers is the first topic of our Third Level curriculum. This booklet is designed to give pupils the space to reflect on some of their work they might have done in primary school as well as the option to consider some new ideas that they may not have come across before. Again, if they could bring any work they manage to do on these to their teacher in August it would be really useful to discuss, however, please do not worry if not able to do so.

Here are some helpful videos Mr Carson has put together to assist you with these challenges!

Maths Department Handbook – This handbook will give you some key information about the department. You can picture our teachers as well as read information about our courses. This is designed to be discussed by young people with their guardian.
