Focus West works in 37 schools in the west of Scotland to provide pupils with an exciting opportunity to experience college and university meet current students and take part in interesting, challenging and relevant activities.
By involving pupils from S4 to S6 and engaging them in enjoyable leaning activities, Focus West works with Hillhead High school to maximise pupils moving on to university.
Hillhead High school takes part in the following programmes:
The Reach programme, which is co-ordinated by the University of Glasgow, works with S4-S6 pupils with an interest in and ability to study a professional degree in Dentistry, Law, Medicine or Veterinary Medicine and Surgery. The programme will ensure that the pupils are well prepared for the transition to university. Participants gain an understanding of career pathways, experience of university learning and teaching, support with every aspect of the application process and advice from staff and students on becoming a dentist, Law professional, doctor or vet. If the pupil successfully completes a pre-entry programme such as Reach then they may be given or considered for an adjusted offer of entry.

The Access programme has similar aims to the Reach programme and is designed to help pupils make a more informed decision about studying Accountancy& Finance, Education or Engineering at Glasgow University, and committing to this particular career path. Like the Reach programme successful completion of the programme may lead to an adjusted offer from Glasgow University.
