Parent & Carer Survey 2016

Today, we will be issuing our annual Parent and Carer Survey for 2016. As a school, we value your views about the service we provide and the work that we do. Data from the survey is used as evidence to support our annual Standards and Quality Report as well as helping us to identify priorities for our 2016-17 School Improvement Plan.

We would be grateful if you could complete the short survey and return it to the office by Friday 20th May.

A paper copy of the survey was issued to through schoolbag mail and an electronic version can be downloaded here: Parent Carer Survey 2016

New School Vision Statement

We would like to thank everyone who returned a response to our vision statement consultation. All the responses have now been collated and we are pleased to confirm that our school vision statement will now be:

Ar Sgoil – Ar n-Ionnsachadh – Ar Lèirsinn    Our School – Our Learning – Our Future

This statement was the unanimously popular choice of parents, pupils and staff. A full summary of the collated results can be found below. Our new vision statement will form an important part of our school identity and will feature strongly around the school and on our documentation.

Quiz Victory!

UPDATE: It was confirmed this afternoon that Sgoil a’ Bhac are indeed Western Isles Champions and will go on to complete in the next round in Dingwall in May.

A team of our P7 pupils took part in the National Rotary Club Quiz for Schools this week. This is the first time that the event has been held in the Western Isles. We were delighted to hear that our team were victorious in the Lewis and Harris heat and came back to school with the trophy, beating a number of teams from other island schools. We’d all like to say a huge well done to our P7 team, Luke, Tom, Hannah and Cara.

We will find out later this week if they’ve managed to qualify for the North Finals of this national event, which will be held in Dingwall next term.

Vision Statement Consultation

One aspect of the School’s Improvement Plan this session was to develop a new school vision statement. In consultation with staff and pupils, we’ve drawn up a short list of possible statements. We would now like to consult with parents and establish from you which of the draft statements you’d prefer to use to convey the aspirational vision for the school in the years ahead.

The draft statements from pupils and staff:

On a journey to achievement – Air an t-slighe gu Soirbheas
Creating excellence through opportunity for all – A’ cruthachadh cothroman sonraichte le chèile
Motivated to learn
Our School, our learning, our future – Ar sgoil, ar ionnsachadh, ar teachdail
Bring out the best in Back
Be the best that you can be
Excellent learning: bright future
Be happy, be yourself, be the best

Please Note: Some suggestions above were submitting in Gaelic and English. The final choice will be published in both languages.

You can vote using the form on this letter: 096 Letter to Parents – 28.03.16

Updated Withdrawal Form

Following feedback from parents, we have updated and made changes to the form used to notify the school of intentions to withdraw children for planned short periods for holidays, family events, sports participation etc.

The form now includes guidance notes for parents that include information about the process and how such absences are categorised. The revised form has been added to the ‘School Forms’ page of the website and can also be downloaded using the link below.

G1-2 Sponsored Walk and Silence

G1-2 did a water focused topic at the beginning of Term 3.  The children suggested giving money to children in deprived countries who don’t have clean water to drink.  As a class we decided to do a sponsored walk and silence to raise money for UNICEF.  The children walked 2.2 miles this morning and then participated in a silence for 1 hour 20 mins!! Didn’t they do well! Some parents joined us for the walk and Finlay’s dad drove the support car for us.  We are overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity…..we have raised almost £600!!!
