Well Done Aimee!

Aimee Prize

Aimee from EP6 was recently awarded a prize for an art competition organised by NHS Western Isles. Our pupils attended a special drama about the risks and dangers of smoking and then designed anti-smoking posters, which were then entered into the competition. Aimee was commended for communicating a clear message and creating a quality design.

She is pictured above receiving her certificate and prize from Mr Macleod and Jeanne Mackay from NHS Western Isles. Also pictured is another prize-winner from Stornoway Primary.

Scholastic Book Fair

A very successful Scholastic Bookfair was run by GP6/7 as a Scholastic Business School.  It went beyond just literacy and it encouraged the pupils to develop real-world skills including financial awareness, creative thinking, responsibility and teamwork. Pupils had to apply for positions by filling in application forms, submitting CVs and writing letters. This year the total rewards came to £510.05 which will be spent to stock up our library.

Pupils were responsible for the advertising, displaying, selling, ordering and totalling up the money each day. Alongside the bookfair pupils, as events co-ordinators, organised competitions. Below is Eilidh, winner of the cake competition  The cake was baked and decorated by Ellie GP7 tying in with the Book Fair theme.

EuroQuiz 2015

A team of P6 pupils from Sgoil a’ Bhac were competing today in the Western Isles heat of the annual EuroQuiz competition. This year, eight teams from across Lewis, Harris and the Uists went head-to-head in the quiz that tests their knowledge of European geography, culture, history and language as well as the European Union.

The Sgoil a’ Bhac team did superbly well again this year, performing strongly in all the rounds. They finished in second place, just a few points behind Sgoil an Rubha. As the top two teams, they went head-to-head in the final, which Sgoil an Rubha went on to win 10-5.

Congratulations to the team from Sgoil an Rubha! This was the second year in a row that we’ve finished as runners-up in the competition.
