We recently had some visits to our local nursing home, Abbeyfield House. The children and residents played games and sang songs together.
Plastic Pollution
We have been learning about the impact of plastic pollution on wildlife, especially sea animals. We collected some plastic waste and created a map to show the route of a piece of rubbish from our homes into the river and then out to sea.
We had a visit from two turtles Wallace and Grommit.
Nativity Rehearsals
Our Nativity rehearsals are now underway and the children have been blasting out their favourite songs.
We look forward to our performance on Tuesday 17th December.

Visiting the Building Site
Recently, some of us visited the site of our new building. We learned all about site safety from Ivor and Honor Goodsite, the safety mascots.
We even had a go on one of the excavators.
STEM curriculum evening
Thank you to all the parents who attended our recent STEM curriculum evening and to the whole staff team for showcasing our learning and making this evening a huge success. Our parents loved trying out some of the experiences on offer and feedback was very positive and encouraging.
Great to see all the stimulating and fun activities and nice to talk with staff and parents.
So lovely to see the amazing resources and have a chance to meet other staff members – really lovely group.
Thank you for all the staff’s knowledge and expertise!
The resources were fantastic, in particular the technology.
Loved the ideas for playing and learning at home and seeing what children do at nursery.
I wish I could provide constructive feedback, but nope! The evening and it’s content was perfect! So much effort made! Such a shame more parents didn’t come along.

A foggy morning
Today as we came to nursery we were quite excited about the foggy morning.
Some of us read a story about fog.
When we went outdoors we easily spotted the spider webs because of the cold, foggy morning.
We went on a search for some more webs and discovered some spiders on the webs.

The spiders are orange or black.” Jacob
Remote control toys
We are learning about direction as we experiment with the remote control toys. We can make them move forwards and backwards and even round in circles.
Mashing and moving
We love to use mashers with play dough. Using mashers develops our gross motor skills as we make pivotal movements by pressing and pushing.
We extended this by using the sieves to press patterns in the play dough.
We discovered that the play dough stuck to the window and we used punching movements to knead the play dough on the window.
Mathematical learning through block play
As I build a structure, I select blocks which are the same size and I create a pattern. I have to place the blocks on carefully to balance them. My friends have made a slide and when I say ‘go’ they knock down my structure then I rebuild it exactly the same way!
Cycling
We created a cycle track by marking lines on the playground and using tyres to cycle around.
Designing our new nursery
We are very excited about the building work going on for our new nursery. We have been looking at the plans and created our own 3D model of our new centre.
Loose parts
As we explore loose parts we are developing curiosity, fine motor skills and mathematical skills.

We are developing fine motor skills as we chop, spread and peel snack.

Asda Visit

This year we have developed a strong community link with @asda Newton Mearns. We continued to develop this link with a visit to the store. The children learned how to use the scanner at the tills and described it as “the best day ever!” Thank you to Leigh @AsdaCommunity
Guide Dog Visit

We had a visit from Miss Cunningham’s brother Paul and his Guide dog Mikey. We learned about how important having a guide dog is to support people who are blind and how we should not distract them when they are working. We all loved the chance to meet Mikey.
Campfire
We have been learning how to stay safe with a real fire. (26.07.19)
