Cancellation of school activities

Regrettably extra-curricular activities at this point in time and for the foreseeable future are cancelled.  This will include all lunchtime and after school clubs, swimming lessons, bikeability lessons and the P7 Cluster Multi-Sports event at Woodfarm High School next week.

In addition whole school gatherings have been cancelled for the foreseeable future.  This will include any parental assemblies, our Community Café and our end of year Church Service.

After School Clubs

Emails have now been sent to parents/carers of children who have secured a place with our popular After School Clubs for this term. If you have not received an email we are sorry to say that on this occasion your child has not been successful.

If your child has been allocated a place with our After School Clubs, our expectation is that your child will attend. Please note that all children must be prepared to attend weekly and not withdraw from these clubs. The coaches are responsible for the children in their care and any absences must be accounted for.  In the unlikely event that your child is unable to attend any session could we please ask you to telephone the school office beforehand (we cannot accept a child’s notification to the class teacher) and this will then be marked on the club register for that day.  Without your assistance our administrative staff have to telephone parents/carers to ascertain the whereabouts of their child and with more pupils than ever taking part in after school clubs this can be a very time consuming task.

We wish to remind parents/carers that although most of our After School Clubs are held within the school, we do have some that are held in other locations.  If the club is not located at Giffnock Primary it is the responsibility of parents/carers to make sure arrangements have been made for your child to make their way to their club and also for leaving the club to go home.  This particularly relates to the Boys Football Club held at Woodfarm High School pitches on Mondays after school.  We would also like to clarify that if your child requires any medication/inhaler at a club held at another location this should be given to your child from your home supply as medication held in school cannot be transported.

Active Schools

Active schools at Giffnock Primary 2019

The after school club programme at Giffnock Primary has grown over the years and throughout a school year provides many opportunities for pupils to take part in a variety of after school activities in sport and physical activity. We have fantastic support from the teachers, local sports clubs, parents and our community coaches from ERCL.

A few facts …………..

This year there have been over 30 extra-curricular physical activity clubs on offer for pupils both in the school and at local clubs for all pupils.

So far around 135 pupils have attended a sport/physical activity club this school year – which is absolutely fantastic.  I will be in school chatting to pupils in August to get some ideas of what clubs they would like in the school next school year, in a hope to increase this number further.   We are always looking for parent helpers so if you have a sport or would like to assist at a club get in touch as soon as possible for next August!

With the holidays fast approaching, the activity doesn’t need to stop there.  The ERCL holiday programme runs for 5 weeks of the summer holidays.  There are all day catered sports camps from 10am – 3pm at Barrhead and Eastwood High Schools and a number of half day sessions throughout East Renfrewshire.   Free and concessionary places are available on the week long sports camps. To qualify for a free/concessionary place, children must attend an East Renfrewshire school and their household must be in receipt of Council Tax Benefit and / or Housing Benefit. For more information and to make a booking go to https://www.ercultureandleisure.org/summer.

Ski lessons

PRIMARY 4 – PRIMARY 7 ONLY

Dear Parent / Carer

We are delighted to offer another block of skiing to all pupils in P4-7 across the Woodfarm Cluster, please find the letter attached. This programme is a partnership between ERCL Active Schools and the Glasgow Ski & Snowboard Centre.

There is also the opportunity, after the block of lessons, for pupils to attend a Ski Fun night in June, at a further cost. However, unfortunately that night clashes with our longstanding date for the School Show Performance which all P4-7 children are expected to be involved in. Therefore, we have informed ERCL Active Schools that there won’t be an uptake from Giffnock for this event.

With that said, we would encourage any of our interested children to take advantage of the great opportunity on offer and as detailed in the attached letter.

Sports Clubs P1 – P3

We are the Sports Committee. We want to help everyone get more active and play more sport. To do this we need information about what clubs P1-3 are going to outside of school.

If you have some time could you fill in this short questionnaire (5 minutes or less!) to tell us about your child’s clubs. This will help us plan clubs for Term 2 and see which clubs in Giffnock are really popular.

after school clubs this week

Because Parents’ Evenings are taking place in the school next week (Wednesday 8th November and Thursday 9th November), the undernoted After School Clubs will not be taking place –  either because they fall on the actual day or because the teacher has to prepare for parent interviews earlier in the week.  You have already been advised of the dates for the clubs but this is just a reminder.

Clubs Not Running

Monday 6th November – Badminton Club
Tuesday 7th November – Code Club & Guitar Club
Wednesday 8th November – Film Club

Thursday 9th November – Science & Archery & Reading/Book & Football for P6 & P7 pupils

Please note that the Multi Sport Club (P1 –P3 pupils) which is held on Mondays will still take place as the coaches are not teachers in the school and therefore will not be involved in preparation for Parents’ Evening.

After School Clubs on Friday 10th November will be held as normal – Girls Football & Cricket Club

after school clubs

We have now allocated places for After School Clubs up until December 2017.

If your child has been successful in securing a place you will now have received a confirmation text.  If you have not received a text then unfortunately on this occasion your child has not been allocated a place.

As there are numerous clubs running from September to December we would ask that you take a careful note of when your child’s club begins and ends and any dates that it will not run to avoid any confusion.  Limited clubs will run during the week of Parent Interviews (week commencing 6th November 2017).  If you do not have the original schedule this information is available on the school website: https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/er/Giffnock/pupils/extracurricularclubs/

Could we also ask that if your child is unable to attend any of the sessions that you telephone the school office in advance (or as soon as possible if a child has forgotten to attend for any reason)?  As you will appreciate, the safety of your child is of utmost importance and leaders of the clubs must account for any absence on their register.  A telephone call from you prior to the club means that the school does not have to contact you about the whereabouts of your child.
