Giffnock Primary believes that parents, carers and other family members can and do make a real difference to children’s education. When parents and schools work together, children do better.

Children learn a great deal at pre-school and school, and parents/carers can add to that learning by supporting them at home. For example showing an interest in their homework and talking to them about it really helps them to learn. With support and encouragement, children find it easier to get into the homework habit.

As we want homework to be a positive, meaningful part of our children’s learning experiences, we will periodically evaluate the content and process of completing homework with our children as well as parents/ carers. During our November 2017 Parental Engagement Survey, parents/ carers raised the issue of homework support/ guidance as one which they would like to have additional focus upon, in particular in the area of Maths. As such, there will be an opportunity for further guidance provided at the Parent Curricular Workshops in February 2018, including consulting further with you as to what documents/ video or other means of guidance would be useful to you and our children.
