The National Parent Forum of Scotland has been working with Skills Development Scotland as part of the programme of work underway in Developing the Young Workforce.
We are pleased to have produced some tailored information for parents, as part of our successful “in a nutshell” series, which covers the new Careers Education Standard launched at SLF 2015. This new nutshell will supply parents with basic information about the initial role of this programme in schools and signpost them to where they can get some more information if they need it.

Well done Lewis!
Chloe Anderson from P3B was awarded a bronze medal for a gymnastics competition held at Williamwood High School in December. Chloe took part in the Floor and Vault sections of the competition. She is a member of Flair Gymnastics and lots of practice has helped Chloe to this achievement!
David Fraser from East Renfrewshire Council presented Chloe with her medal during a school assembly held in Giffnock Primary today.
A special visitor arrived yesterday at Giffnock to meet the younger children during their parties. Who could it be?

Dear Parent / Carer
The Church Service will take place at Orchardhill Parish Church on Tuesday 22nd December starting promptly at 1.30pm – donations will be in support of the Salvation Army and all parents/carers are warmly invited to attend. It would be appreciated if pupils did not go home for school lunch on the last day of term but if this is unavoidable could they please be returned to school by 1.00pm.
Following the service all pupils will return to school to be dismissed at 2.30pm. Please note this early closure time for nursery and primary pupils and ensure that arrangements are in hand for their collection. There will be no afternoon wraparound service for nursery pupils.
We wish you all a very happy Christmas break and would remind you that pupils return on Wednesday 6th January 2016 at the normal time.
This event is suitable for both parents/carers and practitioners with responsibility for learners in all sectors. The aim of the event is to enable delegates to develop their understanding of how high quality Physical Education can support learning across the curriculum. The day will comprise of theory and practical sessions* which will demonstrate this, in addition to exemplifying how a strong home-school partnership can extend the learning experience. There will also be opportunities to hear key messages and engage in conversation with presenters, colleagues and parents. Children are welcome – there will be PE experiences for them to participate in.
*Participation in the practical sessions is not compulsory, although is encouraged. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
To register for this event, please sign up using the Survey Monkey Link below.
MSP Ken Macintosh visited Giffnock Primary School today to present a prize to a pupil in P6B. Each year Ken holds a competition to design a Christmas card (he says children are much better at drawing that he is!) and this year Jack in P6B was runner up.
Ken was met by Reyan from P5A who looked extremely smart in his party clothes. Ken then saw our brass band play some Christmas music and after presenting Jack with his prize, the whole assembly sang a Christmas song for him.

Dear Parent / Carer
The school must confirm its subscription with Education City by Friday 18th December. If you recently expressed an interest in using “Education City” at home and received a request letter for you to sign and return together with £1 but have not returned this to your child’s class teacher, could you please do so before the end of this week.

Each year East Renfrewshire Council runs a competition in primary schools to deign pictures for a road safety calendar. The entries are always of a very high standard and this year two Giffnock pupils have won in their age categories!
Sean in 7 won the P7 category and Cameron in 4 won the P4 category. Also highly commended were Evie from P7 and Molly from P3.
Sean and Cameron attended an awards ceremony at Council Headquarters today and received their prizes. Well done Sean and Cameron and well done Evie and Molly!
The calendars will be given to schools in January 2016.

On Monday 30 November we celebrated St. Andrew’s Day. Lots of people wore tartan to school or came dressed as famous Scottish characters. We heard about the story of St. Andrew and then had a parade. Some children were given certificates for their costumes. Everyone had a great time!

CHRISTMAS FAIR
Saturday 5th December 12-3pm
We need YOUR help. We’ll be running a RED STALL again! Friday 4th December, your child is free to dress as they please, as festively as they like – in return we’re asking that they bring in a donation to the red stall for the parent council to sell at the fair. This was hugely popular last year and raised hundreds of pounds! Suggested donations could include Christmas decorations, candles, chocolates, red wine, toiletries…anything red!
We have a fantastic day planned for the whole family. Loads for the kids to do, beautiful stalls for your Christmas shopping, tea room with home baking, petting zoo, and much more. Please come along and support the event!
Thank you!
Dear Parent/Carer
We are very fortunate to run several after school clubs here at Giffnock.
As you will appreciate this takes considerable organisation and I thank the many members of our staff who give of their time so freely.
Our clubs are popular and often oversubscribed. For this reason I would ask for your support in encouraging your child/children to attend all sessions at any club place allocated.
There have been a number of times when children have simply not turned up for clubs without any notification. This results in unnecessary concern and staff having to make contact with parents/carers to ensure the children concerned are safe.
To prevent this in future can I please ask for your support in informing the school in writing (or by telephoning the school office) if there is an occasion when your child/children cannot or will not be attending after being present in school in order for the adult(s) running the clubs to have an accurate register and ensure all pupils are accounted for.
Yours sincerely
Pauline Ferguson
