Class photos from Tempest

Nursery – P7

Dear Parent /Carer

If your child was at school on Tuesday 17th November and had a school class photograph they will today bring home a photograph order envelope (details of payment etc. are given on the proof order form).

As H. Tempest will be dealing directly with payment for the photographs, please ensure that you include the exact money, cheque (made payable to Tempest Photography) or fill in credit/debit card details and return the order envelope to school by Thursday 3rd December 2015 at the very latest.

Please note that if you wish to place an order after 3rd December you will have to personally send a late order directly to H Tempest Ltd (address on proof envelope) and you should include an extra £4.00 for this service.  We will be unable to accept late orders at the school office.

Please ensure that your child’s name, class and order value are clearly marked on the proof envelope before returning it to the class teacher.

Thank you for your co-operation.

St Andrew’s Day 30 November

St Andrew’s Day House Challenge

Nursery to P7

To celebrate St Andrew’s Day on Monday 30th November, Giffnock Primary School will be having a Scottish themed day.  Pupils can come dressed in traditional Scottish costume, dress as a Scottish historical figure e.g. Bonnie Prince Charlie or alternatively just add a touch of tartan to their school uniform.

A parade will take place on the day and the most creative costumes will be awarded House tokens and certificates.

We hope this will be an enjoyable day.

Remembrance Day Wreath

Last week Advanced Higher English pupils from Woodfarm High School came to Giffnock Primary to work with our P7 pupils on the creation of a poem for Remembrance Day. A poem written by Roman, Kaya, Rai, Jamie and Poppy was chosen to be the centrepiece of a wreath laid at the War Memorial in Thornliebank. Photographs of the wreath can be seen below. Well done to Roman, Kaya, Rai, Jamie and Poppy for their sensitive work on this subject.

Digital Communication and Online School Payments Parent/Carer Survey – reminder

Dear Parent / Carer

East Renfrewshire Council are currently  reviewing  admin/clerical processes across the department and also looking to improve upon the current online payments system.  Given the obvious link between both these pieces of work, they have created a short survey for parents/carers which they hope will capture your views on both preferred methods of general (admin type) communications with schools/pre-five establishments and also your thoughts on the online payment solution.

We hope that you will be able to take part in this survey using the link below. The survey will close on 13 November.

Travelling Books Fair 11 and 12 November

As always on Parent-Teacher evenings we will have our Book Fair in the school library. Travelling Books bring a great selection of books to the school and you can browse at your leisure on Wednesday and Thursday. The school gets commissions from all books sold and we use this to buy more books for the children. Pupils will have a leaflet in their school bag and more information can be found here:

East Renfrewshire Convoy to Calais

MESSAGE FROM COUNCILLOR WATERS FOR HEAD TEACHERS & HEADS OF ESTABLISHMENTS

Colleagues,

The ER Convoy to Calais has had magnificent support from the schools and nurseries in our communities. I’ve been amazed and made proud by the generosity of schools and parents.  The convoy leaves this Thursday evening and, as we promised, there is an open invitation to pupils, staff and parents to come along to the departure. We leave after school hours, so I know this will be a decision for each family to make.

To help us extend the invitation to all your parents, could you please post this message on your school websites, Facebook and twitter, if you have them?

“The East Renfrewshire Convoy to Calais leaves this Thursday at 8pm from the car park of ER Council HQ in Eastwood Park, Giffnock. They are taking the largest single donation from anywhere in Scotland.  Schools and nurseries from all over East Renfrewshire responded with overwhelming generosity to the appeal.  All parents, children and staff are invited to be there for the send-off. The convoy organisers want to give the families who contributed the opportunity to see their donations leave, and to send the convoy off in style.

We hope you can join us.”
