Pupils are timetabled for 3 periods of PE per week. During their time in the PE department they will encounter a variety of challenging practical experiences including working on their own, with a partner and in small and large groups both indoors and outdoors. We strive to provide pupils with an engaging experience throughout a variety of activities where they can build physical competences, improve aspects of fitness, and develop personal and interpersonal skills and attributes.
Included in our PE curriculum are activities such as Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Dance, Football, Gymnastics, Hockey, Orienteering, Rugby, Swimming, Social Dance, Volleyball and Water Polo. Pupils in S1-S3 will have an increasing input to their course design with greater personalisation and choice. This culminates at the end of S2 with pupils electing into a Team Games, Individual Sports or Aesthetics programme.
In addition to this, pupils in S1-S3 work through an Active Health block where the benefits of pursuing an active lifestyle for their Health and Wellbeing are promoted. The pupils are equipped with the knowledge and understanding to establish a positive pattern of physical activity and make informed decisions that will have a beneficial impact on their mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing. In addition to this, pupils undertake a Sport Education block that supports the development of key leadership skills which align with skills for life, learning and work.
Pupils will also be given the opportunity to refine their skills and strategies with creativity, accuracy and control. They will also develop fundamental analytical skills that will allow them to discuss elements of their own and others work, recognising strengths and identifying where improvements can be made.
