East Renfrewshire Citizens Advice – SPACE (Supporting Parents and Children in East Renfrewshire). This project is dedicated to helping families who have children or young adults with additional support needs to access the benefits and support they are entitled to.

SPACE provides guidance on claiming disability benefits, as well as helping families discover other forms of assistance they may be eligible for. We also have access to fuel vouchers, school clothing grants and other charitable support. Our goal is to ensure that families are aware of and can access the financial support they deserve.

SAAS – Parent Councils

The Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) provide government money to colleges and universities to pay for course tuition fees, as well as giving money directly to students to help with living costs while they study. This could be either a bursary, living costs support, or a loan, and the amount received will depend on their circumstances. Research has shown that school leavers have a sound understanding of who SAAS are as a brand, but may not be fully aware of the support that is available to students based on their eligibility and learner journey. We hope to engage with parent councils across the country to close this knowledge gap and ensure pupils are well informed before transitioning to higher education.

We deliver free online application workshops throughout the year, providing valuable information to school leavers and students on the funding available for Higher Education courses. Open to students, parents and carers, teachers and HEI support staff, these workshops will provide information on the funding SAAS administers and offers assistance with formally completing your SAAS funding application. Our Funding Awareness team walk you through the application process and provide an opportunity for attendees to ask any questions they might have to allow them to make an informed decision about their higher education journey. You can view our upcoming sessions running Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout October here.
