Its been a great first week back after the holidays. We didn’t take long to get into learning all about Glasgow. We were inspired by Glasgow’s Coat of Arms and decided to make our own. We decorated them with pictures of things we liked.
We also made a super healthy vegetable stir fry in cookery this week. It had peppers, mushrooms, carrots, garlic and soy sauce.

The Beech class loved numeracy time this week! We confidently explored number and number processes through a variety of games and activities while working with a partner.
We played giant snap!
We played giant dominoes
We fished for number ducks and used the numbers to practise number recognition and matching or adding the two numbers from two ducks together!
Gemma worked hard on her addition skills.
We all practised using numbers and mathematical language by playing a ‘counting machine’ game.

As part of the SQA Planning a Residential class, the Transition Boys planned which clothes would be suitable to take on a residential trip. There were some red-herrings in the options available but the boys were Successful Learners and managed to avoid these items. No hard hats were packed!

As part of the Transition boys’ Health and Wellbeing class this week, the boys took part in some yoga. However this wasn’t just any type of yoga, it was Harry Potter Yoga! The boys were Confident Individuals following all instructions to act out the story with yoga poses. All of the boys found it very enjoyable and we still have the second half to do next week!

The Beech class have had a very Scottish themed week as we begin preparations for our annual Burns Supper!
We started of the week learning some Scottish words, we had to listen carefully to the Scottish words and found the image to match the sound!
…
We then listened to some body parts spoen in Scottish slang and had to match them to the body of ‘Oor Wullie!’
Later on in the week we made our very own Scots Broth! We were very responsible citizens making sure to be healthy and hygienic throughout the food preparation stage and then used different bits of equipment to peel and chop our vegetables.

Some of the Stars class pupils visited the Dick Institute today. We chose then read a book, coloured in, then enjoyed snack in the café. We all had a lovely time.

We were all glad to see each other after the holidays – back to some hard work in Numeracy!!

Getting on with our SQA unit – Reece has been working well.

Adam – typical teenager!!

We had a visit from the Clown Doctors – we all loved them – they were so funny.

More numeracy – glitter numbers and using ICT.

Reece helped make the toast for Social Snack on Thursday morning,

For Literacy this week we explored our letters in bread dough and flour – just a wee bit messy!!

Making choices for our SQA Baking unit – What do we like??

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS *
The Bluebells class have been doing lots of activities related to our theme story ‘Thistle Street’. One of the characters in the story is Agnes Auld and she is a cleaner.
Today we had a roleplay session taking on the job of Agnes Auld. We tried hovering, mopping dusting with a feather duster and washing the dishes.
We all tolerated trying these jobs and then reflected on what was our favourite and what was our least favourite.

The Bluebells class had a fun bus outing today. We went for some chips at McDonalds Drive Thru and then went a drive around Kilmarnock looking at different styles of houses. We had been reading our theme story ‘Thistle Street’ and tried to find similar houses and buildings. We found bungalows, flats, semi-detached houses, houses with garages, schools and churches.
