Challenge #1

I will be posting a new challange on Monday but I wanted to pop something on here just now for you to start working on as this task may be on-going. For this task I need your help.

My Mum (Mrs Woodburn) is a nurse at Crosshouse hospital and is working with lots of patients who are in hospital for sometimes long periods of time.  Usually they have daily visitors or can go for a walk to pass the time but at the moment this isn’t possible.

Staff at the hospital are reaching out to children and young people to create and send in pictures, artwork or stories to help cheer up their wards and to help keep the patients smiling. This is your task!  I will post some ideas below for you to create something bright and cheery.  If you post pictures here of the finished product I can safely print them off and send them into the hospital for you.

Ideas:

all you need is coloured paper, scissors and glue to make this cute rainbow.   create a handprint rainbow if you have any paint at home.   take part in a nature scavenger hunt and creat a rainbow with the colours you find!  if you happen to have some bubble wrap hidden up the loft, now is the time to get it down and have some fun! Simple but effective way to create a ‘magic rainbow’ of you have any paint at home.  you could make some inspirational rocks to hide in a place of your choice.

Alternatively, if you have access to a printer, this link takes you directly to Twinkl where there is a NHS apprecitation themed colouring in template to download. *click below*

Hello from the Beech class!

Hi everyone! Beech ladies here with a little update on how we are all getting on and what we’ve been up to!
We are missing each and every one of you so much – hope that you are all keeping safe and well during this time.

So…

Miss Woodburn here – So I’m trying hard to keep as busy as possible by becoming a bit of a DIY guru around the house and learning how to cook (with a little help from my favourite Itallian chef – Mr Dicampo!) As well as enjoying some of our glorious sunshine in the garden, I am exercising lots and very much hoping to lose some of the many pounds I seem to have put on during lockdown! Missing you all millions – can’t wait to hear how you’re all getting on!

Mrs Wilson has been very busy spending time with her fur family and making lots of crafts! She made some very special gifts for our NHS workers as a token of gratitude and appreciation. Here is a sneak peak at some of her rainbow crafts!

Mrs Shields has been busy decorating, going lovely family walks in the sunshine and getting arty! Check out some of her creations!

Mrs Brady has been spending quality time with her children and doing lots of crafts! Looks like fun! ❤

Mrs and Mr Howie have been busy redecorating and enjoying time in the sunshine! As you can see, her dining room has been turned into a temproary gym/sewing room/craft space and DIY room! Mrs Howie clearly isn’t one for relaxing!

What have you guys been up to?

Finally – as a class, we will be posting a weekly task or challenge for you to complete. These tasks will be completely voluntary and adaptable! Please only use these for ideas or if you feel they would be helpful or fun for your young person 😄 If you do decide to take part in our activities or challenges, feel free to share photos or comments here on the blog. I would love to see your efforts!

I will post a challenge or task every Monday so keep an eye out.

In the meantime – stay safe. Stay home ❤

Class Pet

Mrs Murray is taking care of the Oak class pet, we are growing butterflies. It takes a long time for the caterpillars to turn into butterflies, so each week we will have an update on how they are growing and developing.  If all caterpillars are strong and cared for well we should have five beautiful butterflies to release into the world once they are strong enough.

They arrived last week and this is what they looked like at Day 1;

They came with a house, once they turn into butterflies they will be put in their house and given some sugar to feed on until they are ready to be released. Here is their house;

Already the caterpillars are growing, they are getting longer and are starting to move a lot more.  The tub that they are living in just now is filled with silk webs that the caterpillars produce.  Mrs Murray was keeping an eye on them and making sure they were all moving and doing ok.  Whilst watching them one of the caterpillars did the toilet! These are the black dots you may be able to see in the tub.

This is our caterpillars on Day 5

Activity 1

Have a think about what colour our butterflies may be.  Try and draw a butterfly and colour it in with your predications. Or get an adult to draw one for you and you can colour it in.

Activity 2

Research on google about the different types of butterflies you can find and ask an adult to read to you  the life cycle of a caterpillar growing into a butterfly.

Activity 3

You can create a timeline using words and pictures for the life cycle of our butterflies.  Each week check the blog for the update on our class pet and see if they are matching your timeline.

Sunshine and Clouds

To finish this week, get out the back door and enjoy this sunshine! The rain is supposed to be coming next week! So get outdoors, grab some cushions and make a comfy outdoor bed.  Get your sunglasses on, lie down on your cushions and look at the sky!

1- What can you see in the sky?

2- What can you hear in the sky?

3- Is anything moving in the sky?

4- What shapes are the clouds making?

5- Relax, take big deep breaths and enjoy the sun on your face.

Oak Team

Hi everyone in the Oak class, we are all missing our fantastic class group! We hope you are all doing well and staying safe.  We have our thumbs up as we are all doing well at home.

Each week we will be adding some activities to the class blog for you to take part in. These are optional but we hope you have some fun taking part in them.

Remember if you are missing your morning exercise routines, then have a look at the videos on our Willowbank YouTube channel.  Mrs Murray is currently making up more and these will be added soon. There is a different dance for every day plus some extras to be added.

This term our whole school topic is ‘The Great Outdoors’, our work was based around the story, ‘A Camping Spree with Mr Magee’. Your first activity is to remind yourself about the story and listen to it again on YouTube.

Please leave some comments about the activities we will be setting for you as we would love to hear from you all.

Happy Earth Day!

Today is Earth Day! 🌍

I thought to celebrate you could maybe join in with some of these activities with your family.

In your garden or on your daily walk, can you find some of the items stated below:

Hello Transition Class.

Hello boys! Mr Nicoll here. I hope that you are all well and have been able to enjoy the lovely weather that we have been having. I will be using the blog to send you some suggested activities to do at home. Please don’t feel under any pressure to do everything. Since we are halfway through the week already I thought I’d start with one.

I have been busy planting vegetables in my garden and noticed lots of butterflies.  Here is a link to show you how to make a butterfly feeder for your garden. https://www.nts.org.uk/campaigns/how-to-make-a-butterfly-feeder See how many butterflies you can attract. I’ll make one with my sons and let you know how many we can attract. Keep healthy and look after your families. I’ll send more activities next week.
