Willowbank School, KilmarnockOur new theme is Dinosuars. We have enjoyed starting to learn about dinosaurs in class. We have been watching some dinosaur clips and went for a dinosaur hunt in the garden. We were looking for all types of dinosaurs. Some were large dinosaurs, some were small and some even had wings.
We used masks in classroom to do some roleplay and we pretended we were dinosaurs and roared. We even scared Mrs Higgins.

We have been learning about the importance of fairtrade over the last two weeks. We made banana chocolate chip muffins and brownies in cookery, created fairtrade threading arts and crafts and looked at the origins of chocolate. Toni and Emma enjoyed designing their own fairtrade inspired chocolate bars!
Sensory Play, using our fine motor skills to look for dinosaurs, colour sorting and counting them.
Numeracy we have been working on our subtraction skills, using bean bags, blocks and magnets.
SQA Cookery this week we made biscuits, following the recipe and using the switch to make the mixer work.

Continuing our IDL Story Mr Benn, this week he was a Caveman.
We enjoyed the story, potato stamped dinosaur feet…
then started making Dinosaur skeletons.

Confident Individuals
On Tuesday, the Sunflowers enjoyed their first outing to the park. Each child loved the swings, climbing frame and zip line slide. We had a lovely walk too and practiced using traffic lights. Everyone waiting for the green man to allow us to cross. Well Done Sunflowers!

The Daisies class have loved watching our ‘step back in time’ theme film called The Good Dinosaur. We have watched short clips over the last few days and have been through a rollercoaster of emotions.
Today, we used our knowledge to match characters from the film, identified our favourite character and explored dinosaur eggs. We had to crack them open, remove the slime and save the baby dinosaurs.

The Daisies class listened to a story called “Formidable Sid” yesterday. We looked closely at different pets and identified which animal was hiding behind the binoculars during a PowerPoint game. Finally, we identified what needs different animals have.
Today we explored what different dinosaurs eat. We were successful learners and sorted the dinosaurs into groups of ‘carnivores’, ‘herbivores’ and ‘omnivores’ using a Venn diagram.

The Daisies class loved today’s visit to our local park. We walked there using our road safety rules, loved exploring the park equipment and playing with our friends.
Today we went on our class outing. We all held hands and explored the area around the school. We were able to stop at the roads, look both ways and then cross when it was safe to do so. We saw lots of dogs wagging their tails and builders building the new houses around the corner. We were confident individuals walking well and finding different coloured objects on our route.

Last week the Snowdrops class enjoyed participating in careers week themed activities.
Everyone showed interest in pictures of different jobs people do in the community and the vehicles and uniforms they use to do these jobs.
The Snowdrops then participated in role-play activities. Everyone enjoyed dressing up as police officers, firefighters , nurses and vets!
