Senses Week Quiz!

As promised, the Beech team are here with an end-of-the-week quiz for you that should finish off our ‘senses’ week’ nicely!

Below is a collage of the Beech ladies each holding an item with a different texture or feeling.  We explored our sense of touch!

To help figure out the answers and further explore your sense of touch, why don’t you see if you can find similar items in your house to what we are holding?

  1. Which Beech lady is holding something squishy?
  2. Which Beech lady is holding something small, shiny and hard?
  3. Which Beech lady is holding something that feels rough?
  4. Which Beech lady is holding something white and soft?
  5. Which Beech lady is holding something crunchy and crinkly?

How many did you get right?  Let us know by leaving a comment!

Art 🎨 and Science 🧪

Starry Night Glitter Jar

There is a link below of how to make one of these.

You can use a plastic bottle, if you don’t have clear glue that is fine – but don’t use white glue I made that mistake!!

The science bit it that the glue is thicker so the stars and glue take longer to fall – I have put clear glue on my shopping list this week so I can make another one!!

Even Butterflies!! 🦋🦋🦋

If you would like to make some purple or rainbow coloured rice for sensory play or tracing letter and numbers, I have popped in a link of how to do this. Colouring Rice

Hi Pine Class, how are you all?

Well myself and Heather have been doing some online shopping and getting some bit’n’pieces for our new flat – it is really exciting when things get delivered!! Heather says it’s not as exciting for her bank balance – whatever that means?? The postman rang the doorbell and delivered some lovely pictures – and I helped Heather get them on the wall. And then she took me for a walk to ASDA to get some food shopping, I travelled in her bag, because it was quite a long walk and had a wee bit of a sleep. She bought me a new pretty plant to sit on the window sill with me, it is a succulent – so it does not need very much water!! On Saturday Night we watched TV, it was Heather’s turn to pick, so we had to watch another 4 episodes of Grey’s Anatomy!!! I much prefer Frozen – but I suppose we need to take turns so Frozen next Saturday for the tenth time!! Have a great week Pine Class xx

Rubbings! ✏️

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend. 😀

The art challenge this week is to try and create some interesting images using a rubbing technique.

Wax crayons or coloured pencil will work best when used with white paper. This activity can be completed indoors or out.

Have fun and stay safe.

What melts in the sun?

Hi Snowdrops,

We have had a lot of lovely sunshine and this can be a great time for some fun science activities.  All the Snowdrops ladies are going to help you with this idea.  Let’s explore what melts in the sun!

We have found some foods for you to test but you can choose lots of different things.

Take small pieces of food and place them on a tray, leave your foods out in the sunshine and keep checking to see what happens.

Enjoy some science in the sun but only if you get time.  Take care Snowdrops, we miss you.

Stars Activities 8

Hi everyone. We hope all is good for you and that you are enjoying the mild weather. 🌞

Helping at home

Our families do lots around the house to look after us. Maybe you could help them do some chores. Why don’t you help………

Set the dinner table

Clear the dinner table

Wipe the dinner table

Wash and dry the dishes

Vacuum any crumbs up

Brush the floor

Dust

Mrs Logan, Mrs Westerman and Mrs Gardner have been very busy doing these chores around our own homes.

Balloon Rocket

Mrs Chisholm and her family had a great time making balloon rockets. Her children enjoyed this activity so much that they showed their teacher’s at their own school what they had done.

Why don’t you try making a balloon rocket too. All you need is some string, scissors, a straw, balloon and sellotape.

Picture Dominoes

We have good fun matching the pictures in this game. If you don’t have a picture dominoes game at home why don’t you print out these farm animal picture dominoes.

Story

This is one of our favourite stories but read today by James McAvoy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sly2G9tae_s

If you choose to do any of these activities then why don’t you send us a comment or some photographs. We’d love to hear from you.

Have Fun! Stay Safe!   ❤☺

Songs and Sensory 🎶

Hello everyone hope your all doing well . I can’t believe it’s been so long since we seen you all . You are all doing so well and I’m sure your enjoying all the time your having with your family ( but secretly looking forward to getting back to school ) 🤭

This weeks tasks are listed below
Activity 1

In the snowdrops we love a song for any occasion, so I thought it’s time to practice our number songs

Singing  hands -Three little monkeys https://youtu.be/mZBZ8J1R_yU

Five little ducks

https://youtu.be/pZw9veQ76fo

Ten in the bed

https://youtu.be/NZkPYzIKZNc

Activity 2

This activity is all about colours . I want you to have a look 👀 about and find lots of items of different colours maybe choice red , yellow , blue and green and then sort them so the same colours are all together . A good colour sort activity is lego bricks or pegs for hanging out the washing . Have a go see what you can find 👍🏻

Activity 3

We have enjoyed this activity in class before and thought you might like to do it at home . It’s sensory bags . Easy to make and no mess but lots of fun 😃.
All you need is

ziplock bag

tape

water

oil

food colouring

into the bag add about 1/4 bag of oil ( baby or vegetable oil is fine)

next add some food colouring

then  1/4 bag again of water

now zip it closed fold over and  tape That edge so no leaks .

You can also add glitter if you like some sparkle .
Raid the craft box and make some of your own , water or hair gel works well with Pom poms , sequins or pick something and try it out .
A really simple one is to add shaving foam to the bag , you can use this to practice your letters or numbers or just make some patterns.

Have a good week Snowdrops 👍🏻 and remember your photos if you can . We would love to see how your Peter rabbit plants are coming on .

Comets 08/06/20

Hi everyone!

I hope you call had a lovely weekend! I have lots of new activities for you to try this week!

The Gruffalo

The Gruffalo is a favourite story of lots of the Comet class. Before we stopped some of us had been practicing signing along to the story, and we were getting really good at it! Use the video below to help sign along to the story, learn some new signs, or just enjoy listening to the story.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiY6O7Px5PY

There is even this awesome Gruffalo song to try as well!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCdVP9Qq6HM&t=120s

Chalk Work

If you have some chalk at home there are lots of fun activities you can try. My favourite is to draw a clock face and use sticks to make different times. Can you make all the different O’clocks? What about half past?

I'm a teacher, get me OUTSIDE here!: An outdoor clock | Outdoor ...

When you are finished you can use the chalk to make draw pictures and make colourful patterns.

Cupcakes

I know how hard you have all been working, which is why I think you deserve a treat. I know how much we all enjoyed baking as a class, so why not try it at home. This simple cupcakes are easy to make but super delicious to eat. Give them a go and enjoy your sweet treat at the end 🙂
