Willowbank School, KilmarnockThe boys were Effective Contributors as they continued their trials of different group games, trying out sand bowls on different surfaces. We found out that the sand bowls run a lot further on the playground surface compared to the grass! We also found out that Mr Nicoll may have had a lot of practice growing up! The boys also consolidated their kick rounder skills for fielding by practicing their throwing and catching. The boys seemed to take great delight in stumping out the staff!
As part of their Personal Presentation topic, the Transition boys focused on repairs this week. They were Successful Learners when they sewed a button onto material. They were very patient when threading the needle and pushing the needle through the button. We can now replace missing buttons and may start a small business charging 20p a button!
The Transition boys were Confident Individuals this week when planning the end of their greenhouse build. The roof needs to be completed but we are low on materials. The boys successfully measured the length of each cane to make sure we could get the correct ones. They counted rows on the back of the greenhouse to calculate how many canes would be needed for the roof. Finally they counted the number of bottles in each row to work out how many bottles we would need. 33 rows with 10 bottles on each equals 330 bottles! We also took the opportunity to neaten up the top of the canes and tidy up.
The Sungazers were ‘Confident Individuals’ and ‘Effective Contributors’ while working towards achieving our ’50 Things To Do Outdoors’ challenge.
Number 10 – Barefoot Challenge
The boys enjoyed having their bare feet placed on the grass and exploring this different sensory experience. They were able to experience the difference between bare foot and wearing shoes when walking on the grass.

The Planets class loved our Humpty Dumpty themed science eggs-periment! We had to choose a material to place inside our zip lock bag that we thought would keep Humpty Dumpty safe.
We predicted whether the egg would stay whole or crack before each “fall” and then reported our findings.
We had lots of fun!

The Planets class used forks to print some tulips on a Spring painting. We really enjoyed doing this and had lots of fun!
We have been successful learners this week during cookery. We made sandwiches, choosing our ingredients and spreading butter on to the bread.
We loved using cutters to making our sandwiches into shapes before enjoying these for snack.
Successful Learners
The Sunflower’s have worked extremely hard on their numeracy tasks this week. We have been colour matching with pompoms, drawing and tracing shapes and building numbers using playdough and number blocks. We also enjoyed a number hunt in our rainbow rice using numicon.
Confident Individuals
In class, this week we have been continuing to focus on the importance of making good choices. The children have been pointing to items that they need and items that they really like. Everyday in class, we choose what we would like for lunch using photographs. We are confident in making positive choices throughout our school days.
The boys in the Oak class made some lovely Easter themed wreaths today. Excellent use of mixed media created an interesting wax resist effect on the paper Easter eggs.
Lots of teamwork and sharing today. Keep up the hard work boys!
