Science Week – Fireworks in a Glass

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *

The Bluebells class enjoyed today’s science experiment where we created fireworks in a jar. We added food colouring to some oil, gave it a really good stir and added the mixture to a glass of hot water.

We waited and watched and noticed some fireworks appearing in our jar!

More Successful Science Experiments

We had more successful learners taking part in more science experiments. We turned a raw egg into a bouncy egg with no shell using vinegar. Everyone had great concentration and anticipation on where the experiment would work. Everyone focused their attention when waiting on the egg being bounced. It bounced quite a few times before going, splat!

We also made rainbow paper using water and clear nail varnish, everyone actively participated and took their turn at giving their black card a rainbow pattern.

We also took part in a coloured pen experiment, we chose our colours and used some water to separate the colours. Everyone enjoyed looking at the original colour separate and move up the paper.

Successful learners during Science week

This week has been full of lots of different science activities and experiments. On Tuesday we had a day of science. The people from the dark sky observatory came with an inflatable planetarium. We all went inside to view the stars and the planets. We experience some science activities with students from Grange. We got to explore robots and made our own circuits with the ladies from Dumfries House. We also enjoyed exploring the stomp rockets.

We also conducted some science experiments in the classroom. We all really enjoy water play to we investigated floating and sinking. The children were confident individuals in placing the items in the water and then had some capacity fun filling and emptying different containers.

Science Week – Making Slime!

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS, CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS *

Today’s science experiment involved us working together to make slime. We used blue food colouring to turn the slime a lovely blue colour and all participated in the mixing of the ingredients.

We enjoyed exploring our slime by stretching, rolling and squeezing it!

Super Fun Science Day!

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS, CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS *

The Bluebells class had an amazing time during Willowbank’s Science Day. We had lots of volunteers visit the school with some amazing activities including the planetarium, electrical circuits from Dumfries House, stomp rockets, robots and model heat engines!

Snowdrops – Science Week

Successful Learners – Effective Contributors – Confident Individuals

The Snowdrops have been actively engaged in many science activities.  All pupils have been focussing attention on different reactions and changes that have been happening during our class or school experiments.  The Snowdrops have shown lots of interest and used many skills – pouring, shaking, pressing, mixing.  Lots of good listening, choosing and following simple instructions for all the Snowdrops!  It’s been super fun so far.

Day 1 – Science Week

Monday started with a bang to our week of experiments for Science Week.

We made our predications of our success rate and already we have had quite a few passes!

Everyone had a great day making their predication on success of the experiments, then watching and waiting for the experiment to happen to see if they were correct.  We were effective contributors when taking part in all the experiments.  Also successful learners all round as everyone was keen to get involved and try things out.

We made lava cake and enjoyed eating it, we explored air power through a variety of different experiments.  We made a stick man dance in a plate of water and we attempted to make slime, however again we failed at successfully making slime! However the everyone really enjoyed exploring, playing and describing how the slime felt on their hands.

Science Week – Dancing Raisins

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS *

The Bluebells class enjoyed observing the changes that take place during today’s Science experiment. We filled a cup with still water and a cup with sparkling water and added some raisins. We noticed how the raisins in the still water sank to the bottom. However, the bubbles in the sparkling water helped the raisins to ‘dance’ by bobbing to the surface. We got very excited by this!

We were also brave enough to taste the sparkling water which some of us had never tried before. Most of us didn’t like it.

Science Week

The daisies have been exploring lots of different aspects of science throughout the week. We have been successful learners and have used observation and investigating to explore chemical reactions, sounds and vibrations, forces and parts of a plant.

Science week

We have been doing lots of science experiments for science week this week. on Monday it was science day and the boys went around different experiment stations through the school which included making our own lava lamps, rocket launchers, lego volcanos and blowing a balloon with baking soda.

In class we have enjoyed doing science experiments  a balloon powered hovercrafts, bouncy eggs and using different items to see if they would float or sink.
