Science Week

It has been Science week in school, we tried and tested a variety of experiments this week.  Some successful and some unsuccessful, we predicted at the start of the week that we wouldn’t have any successes so we are happy with our results.

The boys were successful learners when listening to instructions and following the powerpoint to create their experiments.

Experiments we completed;

Cotton Ball Launcher = Unsuccessful

Captauplt = Successful

Leak Proof Bag = Successful (if completed slowly!, also if you do not unseal the bag!) so there was a swimming pool in class too.

Inflating / Deflating Balloon = Unsuccessful

Red Nose is this week, so the Oak boys made red nose cupcakes, everyone was effective contributors.

Cameron loves ‘Deal or No Deal’ so we have made a box and this will be used next week during our numeracy, coin work.

LGBT Purple Day

We had a busy fun day on Friday for Purple day to raise awareness on LGBT.

In the morning we were effective contributors and each class joined up with another class to create a purple activity for everyone to take part in.  Here are some of the activities.

The press up competition was as an added extra that Blake decided to add in.

In the afternoon the secondary department all came together to showcase our learning on LGBT.

Firstly each class paraded around the hall with their LGBT flags.

The Oak boys were confident individuals when standing to present in front of their peers.

Jack and Blake took part in an interview based around their book ‘Tango Makes Three’.  Everyone took part to perform to the song ‘This is Me’ and letting everyone know to be proud of who they are.

Nathan played the bells, Anthony, Jack and Blake played the chimes, Sean was on the tambourine and Cameron sang along using his Makaton signs.

Theme Work – Thistle Street

Angus listened to instructions well to make his bird cake.

This week we were making bird cakes to feed the birds,  with all the snow and the cold weather we have been having we need to help our bird friends find some food.

We added raisins, oats and seeds to our bird cake mixture. All boys were effective contributors taking part in making these bird cakes.

Anthony sneaked more raisins in his mouth than he put in the mixture!

We then went and placed them in our sensory garden, the birds will have a good dinner tonight.

Activities this week

We made a variation of Pigs using paper and milk cartons.  This year it is the year of the PIG for Chinese New Year.

We have been confident individuals when carrying out our jobs within the class.  Jack was excellent at using full sentences when asking is his friends what they would like for their lunch.

Patrick came to pay us a visit at snack time, I think he could smell the toast. Anthony cleaned the table after snack, whilst Jack washed the dishes and Blake dried them.  Very effective contributors working together to tidy up after snack times.

We created our own clocks to help us understand how to tell the time, using analogue and digital formats.

The Oak boy band are still working hard and being successful leaners when learning new songs to play on the keyboard and their other chosen instruments.

Christmas Enterprise

Every boy within the Oak class was an effective contributor, we all worked as a team to create our chocolate reindeer lollipops for the Christmas market.  We had a very successful production line and made 50 lollipops in a short period of time.

Each boy chose the colour they would like to decorate and Anthony coloured his very own reindeer.

Simple and effective Enterprise product that the boys enjoyed making to sell at the Christmas market.
