IDL: Harvest Time

The Beech class enjoyed celebrating Harvest by gathering foods to donate to the foodbank and completing lots of fun activities around the class.  We learned what harvest means along with some useful Malaton signs for this time of year.  We also looked at the food that is harvested at this time of year, how we sort or label our foods and then we thought about where different foods come from.  We were successful learners during when completing the different activities at each station.

We also created some lovely Autumn themed crafts!   These are our favourite masterpieces.

IDL: Butterfly Release

The Beech class have finally bid farewell to our class butterflies.  We have been exceptionally responsible citizens over the past few weeks as we have taken care of our caterpillars, watched them grow into their chrysalis and then nurtured them as they became butterflies.   Here are some photos of the day we carefully released them into their natural habitat.

Confident Individuals Making Potions

As part of out topic, the Beech pupils designed and created bubbly potions!

We chose which ingredients we wanted in our potions and how many of each ingredient we would need and then challenged a friend to make it.

We really enjoyed thinking about what magic would come from our potions and seeing the different reactions of the ingredients mixing together.

FAOL – Good Health and Wellbeing

*Successful Learners*     *Confident Individuals*     *Responsible Citizens*

The Snowdrops have really enjoyed looking at, touching, smelling and tasting a variety of healthy foods.  For trying new healthy foods we followed the process of smelling it first, then kissing it with our lips, touching it with our tongues and then finally popping it in our mouths to eat.  Everyone did really well following these steps for the first time.

We have also looked at and explored foods that are unhealthy for us and discuss why they were not good for us. We were then able to identify and sort a variety of foods into the 2 different groups of healthy and unhealthy.

IDL Evidence Art – creating Hungry Caterpillar Wall Display

Effective Contributors    Confident Individuals

The Snowdrops have participated actively in using different materials to create the fruits that the Hungry Caterpillar ate. We also created a large caterpillar for our wall.  Everyone showed interest in using and exploring paint brushes, rollers or dabbers to create different effects on our fruit templates.  The Snowdrops handled lots of different coloured materials and textures which we glued to our fruit shapes.  Our wall looks very bright and colourful, showing what happened to the caterpillar in our story.  We will be making butterflies next!

IDL MNU Evidence

Successful Learners/Effective Contributors/Confident Individuals

The Asteroids have been busy investigating the weights of different vegetables and comparing their weights and sizes. We tried to estimate which vegetable would be the heaviest then we checked our predictions using the balancing scales.
We worked hard to order some vegetables in order of heaviest to lightest, lightest to heaviest.
