LS Lowry Houses

The Oak class have been extremely busy in the art room. The boys recreated the famous ‘Berwick upon Tweed’ painting by LS Lowry. They used recycled paper and card and decided to go with a bright colours theme.

We discussed perspective and the clever use of horizon lines in paintings. We also talked about how simplistic yet effective the stick people figures are in the foreground. Super successful learners today.

Wonderful work by some budding young artists!

Friendship fruit salad

We continued to work on building positive relationships with peers and staff in the Sunflowers. We all brought in a piece of fruit to be added to our friendship fruit salad. We sat around the table touching the different fruits to feel the different textures. We then all took a turn at preparing the fruit peeling and cutting it. We then places the bowls in the middle of the table and were able to choose some to eat. We took lots of pictures and these are displayed outside our classroom on the wall.

The start of the new school year!

This has been a busy start to the new school year, for some it is their first time coming to Willowbank school and they have settled in well.

The first couple of weeks were about settling into a new routine.  We took our picture with our 1st day of school frame and sent them home for our parents to see and keep.

We also kept our fingers busy with some fine motor skills activities.

Independent Life Skills

There are some very responsible citizens in the Beech class these days. We are starting to practise lots of different life skills around the class that will help us do chores at home or when we transition from school.

The class worked very hard and made the classroom all clean and tidy. Dave had to stop half way through for a short break though!

Pet Therapy

The Beech class were lucky enough to take part in a pet therapy session last week. Lyle loved the sensation of Bella licking his hands and helping to throw her ball. The girls enjoyed taking care of Bella and Zeus by getting them water and Dave got some exercise by throwing and catching the ball.
