The Transition class spent a nostalgic afternoon looking at photographs. They were Effective Contributors selecting pictures that show friendship and working together at this task. It was great to see photographs when everyone was much younger.

The Transition class spent an afternoon identifying their own skills then linking them to jobs. The class were Confident Individuals selecting then colouring balloons that contained their strengths. The pupils then thought about these skills and selected jobs that may be interesting or use their strengths.
Scones were the order of the week in the Transition class. The pupils were all Confident Individuals when following the recipe and using kitchen equipment. There were some fantastic fine motor skills on display, rubbing the butter into the flour. Some light tasty scones were the result of an afternoon of hard work.
It was Drake Music time again this week in Transition class. They were all Effective Contributors taking full part in all sections. We used our voices well and played along on chime bars at the end.
It was the start of Chinese New Year this week and the Transition class were Successful Learners when they made some dancing dragons. They cut out heads and tails and folded paper to make the flexible body. They assembled the dragon on lollipop sticks to make it into a puppet.
Throughout the week the Transition class were Successful Learners when studying their class book. This week was all about favourite characters and reasons why they were chosen. Quite a few pupils chose the baddie! They all picked words or symbols to explain their choices. At the end of the week when discussing Lord Asriel, the class started to make an airship similar to the one at the start of the book.
What a great start to the week in the Transition class. They were all Confident Individuals taking part in an excellent yoga session. The class copied Mrs Feeney at took on different poses. At the end there was time for relaxation and we left feeling ready to face the week.
This week in the Pine Room we have been celebrating Chinese New Year. We painted fans, decorating them with Tigers, and made Dragons with long colourful tissue paper tails. We watched exciting videos of dancing Chinese Dragons and listened to some tranquil Chinese music. In cookery we made our version of fruit sushi (we know that is Japanese – but oh well!!)
Links below to some stories about Chinese New Year.
In Literacy we have been working on the Letter J, and made some colourful Jellyfish pictures for our alphabet books, and searched for words beginning with that letter – how many J words can you find at home?
SQA Communication we continued with Inside Out and focused on the emotion Anger this week.
We have been rounding up our Scottish Theme ‘Hamish McHaggis and the Edinburgh Adventure’ and looked at the last character ……the Pine Martin.
We read the story for the last time, laughed at some funny Scottish words, watched some Highland dancing and listened to some traditional Scottish Music – we like the bagpipes in the Pine Room.
Today we did some Winter Art and then watched the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics, the colours and the music were fantastic!!!

This week we have been learning about the traditions and celebrations of Chinese New Year. We listened to different styles of music and made our own fans to try the traditional Chinese Fan Dance. We also spent some time cleaning our classroom to clear out the bad luck and start the new year fresh. We then experienced using Chopsticks, which was quite the challenge! We finished off the week with a Dancing Noodles science experiment.
The Asteroids explored percussion instruments on Monday. We were shaking and hitting our instruments and testing to see whether they had a hard or soft sound or a loud or quiet sound. We all chose an instrument to play along with music on the board.
After that, we each chose a recycled container to make our own percussion instruments. We experimented with the sounds the different ‘noise makers’ made (lentils, rice, popcorn, cheerios, etc) and whether they were soft, hard, loud or quiet, then we chose which ‘noise maker’ we wanted to fill our own containers.
We had a great time investigating and making lots of noise!
