Earth Day 2022

Responsible Citizens           Effective Contributors

The Moonbeams have enjoyed learning about Earth Day. We have been making sure our lights are only on when necessary and turning off the computer screens when not in use. The children worked hard to make bird feeders out of orange and grapefruit skins filling them with yummy food for the birds. We will hang them up on Monday while at Kay Park where we are also going to litter pick.

The children also enjoyed making a dirty mud cake out of chocolate mousse and biscuits with some jelly worms on top.

Earth Day with the Asteroids

We were successful learners finding out more about Earth Day this morning.  We paid attention to the board when we watched our information film and then some of us could answer questions about Earth Day.

As our way to help the earth, we planted sunflowers and seedlings to transfer to the school garden next week. We all enjoyed the feeling of the soil running through our fingers and looking at the plants’ roots.

Later, we were responsible citizens and took our recyclable items from the classroom and sorted them at the school recycling container.

We all enjoyed listening and joining in with some Earth Day songs too.

Earth Day!

Responsible Citizens

The Sunflowers have had a lovely first week back and have settled in well. Today we loved celebrating Earth Day. Everyone loved our morning walk in the sunshine and we completed a nature hunt along the way, finding butterflies, lots of different flowers, trees and leaves.  Afterwards, we returned to school to complete our own Earth pictures and fine motor skills task. In the afternoon, we made use of our lovely garden by playing in the sunshine.

Earth Day

*Responsible Citizens*
The daisies spent some time today learning how important it is to look after Earth and the things we can do to keep Earth healthy and happy. We then made Earth paintings using shaving foam and food dye: it was super messy and super fun! 😁

IDL: Egyptian Topic Work

We continued learning about the life of ancient Egyptians this week by exploring King Tutankhamen and making our own 3D pharaoh death mask! We also really enjoyed making our own Egyptian style bread to experience what food would have been like in ancient times.  We also enjoyed working with sand by creating sand pyramid art and sand clay!

We were very successful learners this week during topic time.

Earth Day

We had a very ECO friendly morning in the Beech class as we raised awareness for Earth Day.  We went out a lovely nature walk, planted sunflowers, made nature clay imprints and designed a poster to show our dedication to helping save the planet.  We also switched off all technology all morning where we could to help save power!

well done, Team Beech!

Welcome Back Pine Class…ready for Earth Day?

Working in our SQA Communication Unit, we were successful learners picking our favourite Encanto characters, and putting them into the correct families. We watched a little more of the film and enjoyed some more of the songs.

Some of us got to enjoy a shot on the bike around the playground – thank you Mr Cameron.

We used sensory play for a few reasons different reasons this week,  for hand exercises – working on gripping and stretching. Working on our fine motor skills using the tongs to pick up different shaped objects. We used all the different objects to add up and count down for numeracy.

The weather has been lovely and we went for a couple walk to the Kay Park, we enjoyed watching the ducks and swans in the pond.

Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection, it was first held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by EarthDay.org including 1 billion people in more than 193 countries. The official theme for 2022 is Invest In Our Planet. We have been responsible citizens turning of the lights and all the equipment when we weren’t needing them. We watched some interested videos, listened to some catchy songs and made some cool artwork .

Our ECO rep says remember and turn off when not in use!!!

The Dinosaur that Pooped a Planet!

* SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS, CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS, EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS *

The Daisies class enjoyed reading a story called “The Dinosaur that pooped a planet”. We found it a very funny story! We decided to try and make dinosaur poop. We mixed flour, vegetable oil, salt, brown paint and beef stock cubes together to form a dough. We rolled sausage shapes and put them in the oven to harden. We all really enjoyed exploring dinosaur poop!
