Tomorrow brings us to the end of Languages Week Scotland, and we hope the children have enjoyed their classroom activities as well as their whole school learning with Mr Hastings about languages and cultures from all over the world!
We will be finishing our languages week by encouraging all pupils and staff to come to school dressed in the colours of a flag of their choice! We can’t wait to see how colourful you all look!

We are very excited to be celebrating Languages Week Scotland from Monday 31st January- Friday 4th February!
Article 30 of the UNCRC states that we have the right to celebrate and learn about languages and customs.
Every day in our classes we will be learning about a new language and taking part in fun activities linked to these languages.
Monday- German
Tuesday- French
Wednesday- Spanish
Thursday- Chinese Mandarin
Friday- British Sign Language
On FRIDAY 4TH FEBRUARY to celebrate the end of Languages Week, we would like to invite all pupils to come to school dressed in the COLOURS OF A FLAG OF THEIR CHOICE!
As a home learning task this week, we encourage all pupils to create their own flags either imaginatively, or by researching a country flag of their choice.

As part of our Health and Wellbeing delivery, the Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenting topics are delivered to our learners this term. Please find attached the consent forms for pupils which detail the content of this delivery. These are organised by level.
If you do not wish for your child to receive this input, please contact the school on 01290 338404 before Wednesday 9th June to let staff know.

On Thursday 4th March, the whole school enjoyed celebrating World Book Day. Our P1-3 children came into school dressed as their favourite book characters and enjoyed taking part in activities in class such as designing book covers and decorating bookmarks.
Despite our P4-7s being at home Remote Learning, they weren’t going to miss out on the World Book Day fun! They too enjoyed dressing up as their favourite book characters and taking part in activities such as ‘The Masked Reader’ and guessing the book titles from Emojis.
Well done to all our pupils that logged in and joined the East Ayrshire Sumdog Contest this week! We hope you all had fun and enjoyed putting your maths knowledge to the test.
Out of the 89 classes that qualified for the contest, we are so proud to share with you that Mr McClure and P6/7 received the highest placing from our school on the East Ayrshire leader board!

As you will all be aware, learning about the life and works of Robert Burns is a big part of our curriculum and heritage here at New Cumnock Primary.
Normally, this time of year is busy and exciting with poetry, signing and instrumental rehearsals taking place in preparation for school, regional and even National level competitions!
Unfortunately, these competitions have been cancelled this year due to the current Covid restrictions.
However, here at New Cumnock Primary, we still want to celebrate the work of our famous Baird and showcase our pupil’s poetry talents to our wider community!
Therefore, each class will be given a small part of Address to a Haggis which we would like children to perform, record and email to Mrs McNulty at danielle.mcnulty@east-ayrshire.org.uk. You will find the section your class are to perform on your child’s class blog. Your child may wish to say only 1 line, 2 lines, use paper, learn from memory, it is up to them! Please email these to Mrs McNulty by 5pm this Friday 22nd January.
Selected clips will then be used to create a video which we will share on our communication platforms on Monday 25th January to honour Robert Burns birthday.
Please note: By sending in your child’s video clip, you will be giving permission for their recording to be used on social media as well as Glow.

We were delighted to receive some great news this morning! Our P5-7’s have been taking part in The Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET) Faraday Competition and so far we have 3 first round winners!
The competition is being run by the IET and Airbus. The challenge is to design a new technology to help a disaster zone in the world.
Well done to Brooke Murray, Emma Johnstone and Emma Young.
Brooke designed a PPE vending machine for use in the current Covid-19 global pandemic.
Emma J designed an all terrain rescue vehicle which can be a boat or a land vehicle powered by a quad, fully fitted to provide emergency medical treatment .
Emma Y designed a hurricane shelter equipped with resources needed to survive. Emma’s shelter can be moved anywhere by plane and lowered into an area using a winch line.
Well done girls – we are all really proud of you! We eagerly await to see if your entries are selected for the next round.
