RSHP Parent Workshop 22/4/24

Parents/carers,

Prior to the holiday, we shared with you via the app and school blog that in Term 4, we will be delivering Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenting (RSHP), as part of our Health and Wellbeing curriculum, across all stages of the school.

In line with East Ayrshire guidance, we contacted you to inform you of this.

The programme of study is generated in accordance with National guidelines. The contents of which, form a key element of personal, social and health education in our school and is an important part of children’s preparations for adult life.

Parental guidance letters can be found on the original post or within the Curriculum – Health and Wellbeing – RSHP tab on our school blog.

I write to invite you attend a Parent Workshop session where we can discuss the content of this curricular area at each stage and share with you the resources our staff will be using to support its delivery.

This will be held on Monday 22nd April 4-5pm.

New Cumnock Primary School’s Anti-Bullying ‘respectme’ Scottish Government Initiative

If you remember, we posted a parental questionnaire at the beginning of our ‘respectme’ journey last year, and now we are asking for this to be done again as we need to measure impact and change based on responses across the whole school community. The questionnaires are not lengthy and shouldn’t take long to complete – so PLEASE could you spare five minutes for this, as we need this data to apply for the ‘respectme’ school award. We really appreciate your help and support.

We will have a stand/workshop at Parent’s afternoon/evening that will be supervised by our parent group members and prefects. They will be there to share the good work that has been going on in school to promote this initiative and to answer any questions you may have. They will have fliers for the website and media channels, which contain a wealth of excellent resources. As well as this, there will be iPads available should you wish to complete the questionnaire after familiarising yourselves with what we’ve been working on as a whole school community.

As well as the questionnaire, we have posted below, our ‘respectme’ policy statement for New Cumnock Primary School. This will be available to all staff, children, parents/carers and visitors to the school.

Parents/carers,

Our Easter drawing competitions and Dress Down Day, which were organised by our Parent Council, were a huge success raising £265 for school funds!

Our prize winners were announced at Get Together today.

Earth Hour 2024

Today, our Accreditation Rich Tasks groups participated in Windy’s Earth Hour by getting outside and enjoying lots of screen free fun together!

We felt it was important that everyone got involved, in order to spread the Earth Hour message, not just our Clean Green Team. It was great to see so many children having fun outside with not a piece of technology to be found!

(Apart from Mrs McNulty’s phone making an appearance to capture the proof! Ha!)

The official Earth Hour is tomorrow, Saturday 23rd March at 8.30pm.

We ask that for 1 hour tomorrow evening, our families take time to switch off and dedicate an hour to help bring our world back to life. You can do this in any way you like, by spending 60 minutes doing something positive for our planet. Need inspiration? Click on the link below to view some ideas.

This year we will again be holding our 2 week football Easter camp. Camp 1 will run on Tuesday 2nd of April until Thursday 4th of April. Camp 2 will run on Tuesday 9th of April until Thursday 11th April.

To celebrate the end of term, this Friday, we will be hosting a whole school FAB Friday Get Together, where we will be recognising the Wider Achievements of our pupils .

We want to hear about your child’s successes! Please bring in your certificates, medals or stories about your achievements from this Term.

Parent Council Easter Events

Our Parent Council have decided to hold a drawing competition and a Dress Down Day to raise funds for class trips next term.

Your child will be bringing home an entry sheet today, where they are to design either an Easter egg or an Easter bonnet. The closing date for entries is Friday 22nd March. All entries should be handed in to class teachers and the winners will be chosen later that day by the Parent Council and will be awarded a prize which has kindly been donated by the Gospel Hall.

This Friday 22nd March, the Parent Council will be hosting a Dress Down Day. The cost for this is £2 a child. Please note, no football strips should be worn. When your child hands in their donation, they will be given a raffle ticket which will enter them into a draw to win one of our Easter hampers.

A huge thank you to our Parent Council for organising these events!
