We are a READING SCHOOL! This means we place reading and literacy at the heart of everything we do at New Cumnock primary school, valuing and recognising reading for pleasure as an important skill and experience. Research from the Scottish Book Trust proves that reading for pleasure supports equity and wellbeing, impacts learners’ attainment, and encourages critical thinking, creativity, empathy and resilience.
Our overarching aim is to build a reading culture amongst our pupils, staff and wider community. We achieved our CORE award in August 2025. We are now working towards our SILVER award!
