Last Few Days of Term…

Our last few days of school have been really busy!

On Monday afternoon we had our Christmas Party. We all went to the upstairs hall and played Christmas Corners, Pass the Parcel and Musical Bumps. After all our dancing we needed a drink. So we all went down to the dining room and had our Chrsitmas party food. There was lots of carrot sticks, grapes, yogurt and a cookie. Yum, Yum!

On Tuesday morning we had M & M Productions in who did a panto called Beauty and the Beast. It was great fun. They sang songs and we all clapped and had a great time. We have been adding lots of photos to our folios to show all our learning so far this year.

We have still been couting how many days of school. We have now had 77 days of school. We are well on our way to 100!

One Wednesday we all went to the church for a service. We dressed up with costumes for the nativity scene and sang some songs with our teachers and friends.

We hope you all have a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year.

See everyone on Thursday 5th January 2012!

Week Starting 5th January 2012…

We will be learning about a new topic this term….but it’s s surprise!

Nearly Christmas Showtime

This week we have been really busy practising for our school Christmas Show. We want to keep our rehearsals under wraps just now but here is a little sneak preview of our costumes and props.

We have been doing lots of activities to help celebrate Christmas. In the Active Learning Zone we have been decorating a Christmas tree and taking a photo of it. We have lots of new Christmas apps on the iPad and have been doing Christmas jigsaws, listening to music, decorating a Christmas tree and listening to Christmas stories. We have been counting on the Promethean Board. In the reading corner we have been reading Santa stories. We have also been making pictures of Rudolph on a game on the internet. Why not have a try at some of these to practise your mouse skills…

We have been continuing to learn new sounds and this week we learned ‘oo’. We must remember to practise our sounds books every night as it helps when we are reading. This week we have also made our Christmas cards. We don’t want to spoil the surprise but our handwriting is super! We have also been making cards are the writing table in the Active Learning Zone. We have lovely stamps to put on our envelopes and have been making cards for our family and friends.

In maths we have been doing more work on our adding stories. We have been practising writing them on our whiteboards and playing games in the Active Learning Zone.

Christmas is coming……

We have been super busy this week getting ready for our Christmas fayre.  All our crafts look beautiful and we have our fingers crossed that we will raise lots of money for our school.

We made our own price labels for everything on our stalls.

We made Snowmen Advent calendars and will have to remember to move the number along one every day until Christmas.

In Primary 1a2 we have made Charlie Cook’s Reading Nook as part of our Julia Donaldson book study.  We picked out our favourite bits from Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book and used it to help us plan and make our reading nook.

On Friday 9th we will be  watching the Nursery boys and girls doing their Christmas Nativity show.

Animals and authors!

This week we have been studying the author Julia Donaldson. Everyday we looked at two books by the lady who wrote the Gruffalo and we talked about what we liked about each one. Then we used the Activexpressions to vote for our favourite one. Some of the books had a Gruffalo sticker on them and we learned that these books were written after The Gruffalo.  We also noticed that pictures of the Mouse, the Squirrel and the Owl were in a lot of the other books.  We had fun trying to find them.

In number work we are learning how to add up.  We now know the number stories to 5.  We have been using the counting people and dalmatians maths box to help us.

We have been super busy adding sound to our Gruffalo films.  We worked together in groups to record what each character said in the story.  It was really funny listening to our recorded voices.  When all the groups are finished we are going to have a movie afternoon and watch each others films.

We have been busy making some beautiful crafts for the Christmas fayre next week. We hope that lots of people will come along and buy things from the Primary 1 stall.  Have a look at some of the things we will be selling.

There was a lot of excitement in Primary 1 yesterday as we had a visit from Zoolab.  Lots of animals came to see us and we were allowed to touch or stroke them.  We found out lots of information about the animals.  Some of us found a few of the animals a little scary but we were super brave.

This week we have had a fit Friday.  We have all been busy doing activities to help us stay fit and healthy and learn new sport skills.

The Sleepy Shepherd and Santa Glow Meet

What a week we have had with lots of rehearsals for The Sleepy Shepherd Christmas Show. We finally got to put on our costumes and go on the stage on Thursday morning for our dress rehearsal. It was really good fun. Then came the time when all our parents and carers watched us. We even painted our faces like sheep too. We were all so nervous, but we all had a great time. We sang our songs really well and all our teachers were so proud of us.

This morning we have just taken part in a Santa Glow Meet with hundreds for children all over Scotland. Santa was on our screens and answered lots of questions we had been talking to our teachers about. Like, How do reindeer fly?, and, What happens if there is no chimney?. Santa was really excited and seems to have lots of energy left!

If you came to see our The Sleepy Shepherd Christmas show please leave a comment for us to read in class. Thank you!

Glow Meet with Manfred the Baddie

Another busy week in P1! Song practise continues for the Sleepy Shepherd Christmas show.

We are learning to-

  • recognise shapes and make pictures with them
  • write an invitation
  • sing our Sleepy Shepherd songs

Our main focus this week has been preparing for the Christmas Fayre next Friday. We have made lots of lovely things for parents to buy for Christmas.  We have made Snowflake Candle Holders, Jewelled Photoframes (watch out for the special surprise inside them!) and painted Trinket Boxes. We will also be finishing off mugs with special photographs as well.

We also made invitations to give to someone to come to the Christmas Fayre on Friday 3rd December.

We have been working hard with our blending. Spelling three letter words and trying to sound out words. We have been reading our Oxford Reading Tree books too.

In maths we have been learning about shapes. We made pictures of houses and people with 2D shapes. Lots of us went to the making table to draw and cut out shapes and make more pictures.

P1 children across Scotland will be getting a book called ‘Manfred the Baddie’ from the Scottish Book Trust and a message from Bookbug. This year’s chosen book was written and illustrated by John Fardell and won the 0-7 age category of the Royal Mail Awards for Scottish Children’s Books.

On Thursday John Fardell held a ‘Glow Meet’ session with lots of P1 children across Scotland to tell them all about the book. We took part in the Glow Meet (video conferencing) and watched as John told us the story and showed us his illustrations. It was very exciting and Mrs Mackay even left a message! John also showed us how he drew his character, Manfred and we drew some ‘BADDIES’ of our own!

Our Active Learning Zone is changing. Mrs Munro was very busy on Friday afternoon moving things about and there are lots of new things to try out. Watch this space to find out what our next story will be and what we will get up to!
