Adding, rhyming and fun for Children in Need.

We have been doing lots of adding up this week. It was a little bit tricky at first but we have had lots of fun and can now add up to the story of 3. We used the ladybird and dalmatian maths boxes to help us.

This week we began using our models of the Gruffalo characters to make a film. We worked in groups setting up our film sets, camera and tripod and next we will be recording the story using our voices.

We have used Pivot again this week and were able to add another Pivot character and make them dance. It was so funny watching each others sequences. We have also been using Hector’s world to help us learn how to stay safe when we are using computers.

We have used the Gruffalo story to help us learn all about rhyming words. Some of the rhyming words we found are mouse and house, wood and good, said and sped, claws and jaws, toes and nose and see and me.

We have had a Children in Need day at school to raise lots of money. This year the theme was Show Your Spots, Lets Raise Lots! We came to school wearing spotty clothes and had fun playing spotty bingo and the tuck shop had a yellow spotty theme.

Next week we will be learning how to add sound to our Gruffalo films.

Baby Bear and his chair

A huge thank you to all the people who have commented on our blog!

This week has been a busy week in P1. We have been continuing with our learning through Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We have had lots of story books all about Goldilocks and some of them tell the story in a different way.

We have lots of books about Goldilocks and the Three Bears

One of our favourite books has been “A Chair for Baby Bear”. This book is all about what happens after Goldilocks leaves the cottage and Baby bear has a broken chair. Baby bear must decide on  a new chair for himself. We designed a chair for baby bear. Here are some of our designs.

A car chair by Steven

A rocket chair by Callum

A dragon chair by Amy

A spaceship chair by Asir

A t-rex chair by Ross

A snake chair by Javeria

This story made us think that Goldilocks was sorry for going into the bears cottage so we decided to write a letter to the bears from Goldilocks. We have just started with our letter so here is some of our writing.

In ICT this week we used Glow Meet for the first time. Glow meet is very special as you can talk to people and share things across Scotland. P1a1 sat in their classroom and P1a2 sat in their classroom. We went into Glow and went onto glow meet. We were able to send messages to our friends in the class next door and draw pictures for them. Then we turned on our camera and we were able to see the class next door and hear them. We all took turns of talking to one of our friends and asking them a question. We thought it was very funny.

Then we thought about how to stay safe on the internet. We talked about the internet being a placed that joined up computers all over the world and that is how everyone can see our blog! Here is the link to the movie we watched to help us think about staying safe online.

We are looking forward to reading all your comments in class.

The Sleepy Shepherd and Santa Glow Meet

What a week we have had with lots of rehearsals for The Sleepy Shepherd Christmas Show. We finally got to put on our costumes and go on the stage on Thursday morning for our dress rehearsal. It was really good fun. Then came the time when all our parents and carers watched us. We even painted our faces like sheep too. We were all so nervous, but we all had a great time. We sang our songs really well and all our teachers were so proud of us.

This morning we have just taken part in a Santa Glow Meet with hundreds for children all over Scotland. Santa was on our screens and answered lots of questions we had been talking to our teachers about. Like, How do reindeer fly?, and, What happens if there is no chimney?. Santa was really excited and seems to have lots of energy left!

If you came to see our The Sleepy Shepherd Christmas show please leave a comment for us to read in class. Thank you!

Glow Meet with Manfred the Baddie

Another busy week in P1! Song practise continues for the Sleepy Shepherd Christmas show.

We are learning to-

  • recognise shapes and make pictures with them
  • write an invitation
  • sing our Sleepy Shepherd songs

Our main focus this week has been preparing for the Christmas Fayre next Friday. We have made lots of lovely things for parents to buy for Christmas.  We have made Snowflake Candle Holders, Jewelled Photoframes (watch out for the special surprise inside them!) and painted Trinket Boxes. We will also be finishing off mugs with special photographs as well.

We also made invitations to give to someone to come to the Christmas Fayre on Friday 3rd December.

We have been working hard with our blending. Spelling three letter words and trying to sound out words. We have been reading our Oxford Reading Tree books too.

In maths we have been learning about shapes. We made pictures of houses and people with 2D shapes. Lots of us went to the making table to draw and cut out shapes and make more pictures.

P1 children across Scotland will be getting a book called ‘Manfred the Baddie’ from the Scottish Book Trust and a message from Bookbug. This year’s chosen book was written and illustrated by John Fardell and won the 0-7 age category of the Royal Mail Awards for Scottish Children’s Books.

On Thursday John Fardell held a ‘Glow Meet’ session with lots of P1 children across Scotland to tell them all about the book. We took part in the Glow Meet (video conferencing) and watched as John told us the story and showed us his illustrations. It was very exciting and Mrs Mackay even left a message! John also showed us how he drew his character, Manfred and we drew some ‘BADDIES’ of our own!

Our Active Learning Zone is changing. Mrs Munro was very busy on Friday afternoon moving things about and there are lots of new things to try out. Watch this space to find out what our next story will be and what we will get up to!
