The sound we have learned so far are s, a, t, p, i, n, c, k, e, h, m, r and d.

We have been using the Oxford Reading Tree Big Talking Cards to learn all about Mum, Dad and all the adventures the family have. We love to talk about what we can see in the pictures and Miss Davies and Mrs Mackay even have special puppets to help us remember who everyone is. Floppy is EVERYONES favourite.

We drew our favourite scenes from Sleeping Beauty and added speech bubbles to one of the characters in our picture. We stuck all our pictures in our floor book.

In numeracy we have been learning all about 2D shapes. We have been sorting, matching and drawing shapes. We liked to play the Feely Bag game where we could not see the shape but had to guess what it was by its features.

We also had our first school assembly and gym this week. We loved gym and were very good at balancing fluff balls using our bodies.

At the start of every week on our blog we will put some information about the following week in school.

We have been playing at Sleeping Beauty in our classroom and Mrs Munro’s Learning Zone. We made pictures of a castle with shapes, made a castle with a thorny hedge all around and have been playing in Sleeping Beauty’s bedroom. We also have a floor book all about our learning through Sleeping Beauty.

We have been talking about Eid. Manahil had a beautiful henna pattern on her arm to celebrate Eid.

We also put in an entry to the Dundee Flower Festival. We made birds with feathers. We won a third place!

Sleeping Beauty

  Hi everyone!

We have had a very busy week. Here is what we have been learning.

We have been learning new sounds p, i, and n. And we are beginning to see if we can blend these sounds together to make words. We are continuing to write on our sound sheets and send them home.

We have been learning about our Oxford Reading Tree characters that will be in our story books. We have heard stories about Kipper and Biff and Chip.

We have been listening to lots of Sleeping Beauty stories and have lots of different areas of learning which will help us learn about Sleeping Beauty. After we listened to all the stories we voted using Active Expressions. We had to think about which one was our favourtie.

We also have been listening to stories about princess too. We have a castle, puppets and Sleeping Beauty’s Bedroom in Mrs Munro’s Learning Zone and have been making crowns in the classroom.

We have also been watching a DVD about Sleeping Beauty made with shadow puppets. We were amazed with it and are going to vote about whether we like the book or the DVD the best. We have a big floor book and will start to put all the things we are learning about Sleeping Beauty into it.

In maths we have been counting, learning numbers and sorting. We used maths boxes. We used the frogs maths box and sang five speckled frogs and we used the Bad Tempered Ladybird box. We listened to the story and counted the ladybirds with spots.

We used the Promethean Board to sort bears and sorted buttons and other things into sets too.

A New Primary One

Welcome to all our new Primary One pupils!

You first week at Dens Road has been very busy and we cannot believe how quickly you have all settled. Let’s see what we have been learning about….

We were introduced to Walt and Wilf this week. Walt is the teacher’s friend and tells what to teach us. Wilf tells us what to do to succeed. They are both there to help us learn.

We have been learning new Jolly Phonics sounds s, a and t. We have been trying to write those sounds and think of words that begin with them. We have been using the promethean board to practise writing them too.

Our number work this week has been practising writing numbers and drawing how many. We are very good and lots of us can count and write lots of numbers. We will be counting how many days at school. We have been at school 3 days to far.

We have been learning about the rules in school and about trying very hard to be green. We have a wall with our names on it. If we follow all the school rules we stay on green and get special treats. We also have sticker charts too and get a special prize when we complete our sticker chart. We love getting stickers for our charts!

We will be learning about Sleeping Beauty and have started reading different stories about her. We will be doing lots of activities about Sleeping Beauty.

Please leave a comment and let us know what you thought about your first week at school.

School Trips

This week we have been on our school trips.
Some of us went to Deep Sea World and some went to Baxter Park.

Deep Sea World
We all have a good time.
We were in three groups  as we went round Deep Sea World to see everything. We really enjoyed the shark tunnel and we saw a mummy, daddy and baby shark. Dylan said it was just like the three bears.

The angel sharks watched us and were sliding over the tank tunnel. We liked their faces.
We asked lots of questions at the seals and liked Heather and . Samuel made such a good seal noise that Heather the seal came to see him.

We all liked the arrow frogs especially the yellow and blue arrow frogs.
When we went home we all got a real shark tooth.

What a great day!
Baxter Park
We all had a great time at Baxter Park.
We all walked along the road and crossed all the crossings to make sure we got there safely. Then we went into the pavilion to do some art and craft with Mrs McLean.

We used oil pastels to make a beautiful coloured butterfly. After we finished we went on a nature walk around Baxter Park. We looked at lots of lovely coloured flowers and we found some trees which had blown down. We also found lots of nettles so had to watch that we didn’t get stung.

We walked back to school to have our picnic. In the afternoon we had Mini Games. We all went into teams and had to do things like hockey, relay running, golf, hurdles and long jump. Some of us were in the winning team.
What a great day we had!

Goldilocks and the Three Bears Assembly

This week we had our Golidlocks and the Three Bears assembly. We were all very nervous. We had practised lots of times to say our words and learn lots of songs that helped us tell the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We had three narrators, Golidlocks, Daddy Bear, Mummy Bear, Baby Bear and Golidlocks mum. We all made special ears so we all looked like bears andwe had black noses painted on us with face paint.

We all did a great job. We remembered our lines we had to say and we sang beautifully. Miss Davies, Mrs Mackay, Ms Lowden and Mrs Munro were very proud of us. Lots of mums and dads and grans and grandads came to see us. They all gave us a great big clap at the end. Then they stayed for a drink and a biscuit. We all got to see Andrews new baby too. Mrs McDonald told us that we were all nearly in Primary 2 already because we looked so big and grown up.

In P1a1 this week they have had another two new arrivals!

Stone and Rainbow arrived this week so we now have four fish in our tank. We thought the other two were really lonely in such a big tank so it’s great to have lots of friends.

Pets and Plants

We have been using the Promethean Whiteboard to help us add. We drag on the fish and add them to see how many altogether.

We have been playing a matching game about animals and their homes. We are still enjoying learning about rhyming and we all played this rhyming game were animals lived in a rhyming place – the toad lived on the road and the duck lived in a truck.

We wrote instructions on how to plant a seed. We had practise doing this in the compost tray and we all planted our own Sunflower seeds. Our sunflowers are starting to grow … Some are really tall but others are just little shoots.

We are still enjoying the garden centre and Dominika and Maja have been labelling and pricing things.

We have been reading books by Judith kerr but these are our favourite two.

We have been learning how o care for our pets and we are taking turns to feed Daisy and Rocky.

Here is the playdough models Sean made. He made an ant, a centipede, a caterpillar and a flat worm. Mrs Mackays favourite is the Centipede.

Remember!!!

Next week is our Goldilocks and the Three Bears Assembly on Tuesday 14th June at 9.30am. Parents are invited so please come along and see us!

We are learning about Plants and Animals

We started this week by finishing off lots of experiments. We had to use our senses to taste different crisps and decide what flavour they were. But Miss Davies and Mrs Mackay hid the packets they came from so we didn’t know what flavours they were. We filled in a sheet to record our experiment. Then we did a smelling experiment. We had to guess what will hidden in the cup. We recorded our findings for this experiment too.

This week we are learning about Plants and Animals. In the classrooms we have a vet and a garden centre. We have compost in the sand tray so we can practise planting. We did a mind map for our areas to help us decide what we need.

Our Garden Centers have needed a lot of work. We needed to made signs and put up lots of flowers. We have a cutting activity where we have to use catalogues to cut out things for our garden to help us design it. We all like the sheds and swimming pools.

In our water trays we have a pretend frog pond. It had pretend frogs and tadpoles that help us to play and learn about the life cycle of a frog. Try out this website.

We have been listening to lots of stories about animals too.

P1a1 are very lucky because they have two new class pets. They are goldfish. A gold one and a black one. The class voted on names for them and decided on Daisy and Rocky. We are looking forward to caring for them.

In Mrs Munro’s Learning Zone we have a pet shop and an X Box Kinect with Kinectimals game. We all got the meet the five cubs who are in the game and used the Active Expressions to vote on who our favourite cub is. We choose the black panther to be our P1 cub. Watch out for more information about what we get up to with him as we play and care for him.

A visitor to school

Every day when we come into school we look at our wall to see how many days we have been coming to school. We have now been coming into school for 154 days! That’s a huge number. We have been practising our days of the week too.

We have also been finishing our checkups in maths. We have been showing our teachers if we have remembered all that we have been taught about adding. Some of us have been doing subtraction too.

We have been writing our news about the things we do at home and the things we like to play with in Mrs Munro’s Learning Zone.

Maja painted a picture at the easel and scratched a design of a bird in it. What a great picture Maja.

In P1a1 we have been listening to stories by Julia Donaldson. We can now recognise her stories and illustrations. We also listened to other stories but they were all rhyming stories. We have really loved them.

In P1a2 we have been continuing to have fun in our Baby Clinic. We have been filing out the by writing in the baby’s name, address, weight and length.

Last, but most important! We had a visitor to school this afternoon. Mrs Taylor in the nursery has got a puppy. We were very lucky as she brought it into school to let us see. Hayley is a chocolate brown Labrador. It was so cute! We are looking forward to Mrs Mackay bringing in her dog Lola.
