‘Be our Guest’ at Dunoon Primary!

Dunoon Primary School Choir hosted a superb Daffodil Tea entitled ‘Be Our Guest’. The afternoon show was attended by members from various senior citizen groups within our local community and it has indeed become an annual event. The children began the programme with a medley of Scottish songs including old favourites like ‘Red Yoyo’, ‘Skyscraper Wean’ and ‘Loch Lomond’. The solo singers sang so sweetly and clearly wowing the audience both at the afternoon tea and in the evening, much to the pleasure of the very proud parents!

Sal Team of DPS at Oban ‘Raising Attainment’ Conference

Dunoon Primary’s magnicifent Sal Team attended the ‘Raising Attainment’ Conference in Oban on Tuesday 11 March 2014. The enthusiastic pupils were thrilled to be asked to have a stall displaying their IT skills in Raspberry Pi, Lego We Do and EV3. Their stall was very busy and the pupils displayed very confident clear answers to any questions asked by the visitors. Gary Clark held a workshop and the pupils were delighted to be invited to assist him. The audience asked them lots of questions and they explained the various aspects of the software and how they enjoyed using it. Models In The Making at DPS!!

Pupils, parents and staff of Dunoon Primary School walked the catwalk at the local M & Co store on Thursday evening. The school’s PTA had organised the event to raise money for school trips. The models chose their outfits beforehand and delighted the audience as they wore a range of trendy smart and casual clothes. The sell out event was a huge success and raised over £500 which will no doubt be put to good use next term! Well done everyone – cant wait until next time!

Batman Strikes at Dunoon Primary!

The pupils of Dunoon Primary School were delighted to welcome world acclaimed comic writer Mr Grant Morrison, MBE to their school on World Book Day. Mr Morrison who among other things writes for DC Comics and Marvel Comics enthralled Primary 5,6, and 7 pupils with his talk on his Batman story lines and other Superheroes he has created such as Captain Clyde! He answered many questions the children had about his career and was truly inspirational as he encouraged the children to keep working at whatever they have a passion for and never give up.

Vikingar Fun for P5

What a magnificent fun day out Dunoon Primary P5 class had at Vikingar on Friday 7th March. The pupils were treated to a visit to a real life Viking Home and as they entered ‘strange aromas’ were evident of the Viking age. The informative guide quickly began to introduce us to a world of information on our topic, with lots of clever pupils answering questions testing their knowledge of the Vikings.

Vikings Topic P5 Dunoon Primary

This term P5 are learning about The Vikings. All the pupils are thoroughly enjoying the topic and have produced some fantastic work. They have designed and made Viking shields from wood, drawn longships and have used ICT skills to produce Viking factsheets. Pupils have also made their own Vikingbook page with their own wall post and profile picture ( dressed as their Viking character). We are all looking forward to continuing this topic and a trip to Vikingar to learn more.

Dogs Trust Centre visit Dunoon Primary!

On Wednesday 12th February Alison and Alfie from the Dogs Trust Centre in Glasgow came to visit our school. Alison told the children about the work carried out there and also discussed with them the important aspects of dog care. She emphasised the need to clean up after our dogs when exercising them in public places. This tied in with our Eco Schools Committee who are organising a poster competition to highlight the need to keep our streets clean and free from dog mess.

Parent Volunteer/Enterprise Visit – Experience of nursing in War Zones

As part of their interdisiplinary project on World War 2 on Thursday 27th February 2014, P7/6 pupils at Dunoon Primary were delighted to welcome Mrs Aileen Danby, mother of Lili, p.6. who gave an excellent presentation about her exciting career as an officer and a midwife/nurse during the Gulf War and Afghanistan conflicts. She enthralled us all about her various brave rescue missions which also involved her being lowered down into the Jungle of Brunei to rescue wounded soldiers. Dunoon Primary P7 visit to Dunoon Sheriff Court.

Dunoon Primary P7’s were delighted to be invited to attend a tour of Dunoon Sheriff Court on Friday 31st January 2014.
The pupils were given a guided tour of the cells underneath and really detailed information on the history and day to day running of the court by Mrs Mel Drummond, Sheriff Clerk. Dunoon Primary School Open Afternoon Antics!

On Thursday Primary 3 held an Ancient Egypt Open Afternoon. There was a fabulous turnout of parents, grandparents and siblings. The children of P3 led their visitors round the five activities including puzzles, problem solving, inventing and playing Ancient Egyptian games. Benmore Fundraising Disco at DPS!

Dunoon Primary danced the night away at the recent disco in their school hall. They were delighted to welcome P6/7 pupils from other local primary schools There was no shortage of pupils on the floor as the DJ Steven Simpson played top chart music along with some old favourites like the Macarena! Mrs Clark Headteacher, Mrs Stewart Deputy Head and Mrs Wakefield Principal Teacher along with our terrific parent helpers who were on the scene to take care of entrance tickets and refreshments.

DPS Fundraising at Morrisons!

Dunoon Primary School took the opportunity to collect funds for ‘Text Santa’ at our local Morrisons Supermarket. The enthusiastic pupils packed the festive shoppers bags to raise funds for the charity. They also set up their own fundraising stall at the back of the checkouts and asked shoppers to take part in the various prize winning events such as ‘Guess the number of sweets in the jar’ & ‘Guess the Birthday’ . The money raised will go towards the transition weekend to Benmore Outdoor Centre for Primary 7. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed this new challenge! Well done. Wonderful Baboushka

Dunoon Primary School Choir performed ‘Baboushka’ at St Johns Church on Sunday 15th December. The busy church were treated to a stupendous performance as the children sang so sweetly and confidently under the direction of our superb Choirmaster Heather Hamlet. The solos were simply marvellous and all the pupils are a credit to their parents and to our school.

Dunoon Primary At Clyde Cottage Nursery

Dunoon Primary School Choir visited Clyde Cottage Nursery today. The pupils entertained the pre 5 children with a medley of songs from this years Christmas Musical ‘Baboushka’. After a terrific night at St Johns Church to a packed audience yesterday our pupils were very excited to be going there. We had a few angels, Baboushka herself and Tiddles her pet cat with us! The choir began with ‘We’re going shopping’ and progressed onto sing various songs from Baboushka and ending with Jingle Bell Medley.

Star Winners at Dunoon Primary!

Dunoon Primary pupils did exceedingly well at this year’s final between various local schools at the Annual Speech Contest in St Johns Church Hall.
The competition is organized every year by the Association of Speakers Club, Dunoon and is an excellent way for children to get involved in public speaking. The pupils learn to speak at their own pace as their confidence grows. Few skills impact on your life more positively than learning to speak in public. Dunoon Primary Christmas Fayre

Dunoon Primary School PTA held a magnificent Christmas Fayre on Thursday 28th November 2013. The hall was packed with parents, pupils and shoppers as the crowd awaited the choir coming on to do a selection of Christmas songs. Santa was busy in his grotto and the teachers and staff were busy in the tearoom serving up a selection of home baked goodies.

Dunoon Primary Eco Schools Anti dog mess and cigarettesstub Campaign

Dear Readers,
Dunoon Primary’s Eco School’s Commitee 2012/2013 were delighted to receive their second Green Flag Award in the summer of 2013. Our Eco School’s assessor, Paul Love was delighted with all the Eco School improvements our school had made for e.g. further improvements to our Fairy Garden and was delighted to witness a real life mum and dad Coal Tit fly out of the newly designed bird house made by one of our P6 pupils and their grandfather last year. Children In Need at Dunoon Primary

Mrs MacDonald and P6/5 of Dunoon Primary School organised activities to raise money for Children In Need. The children sold raffle tickets to win a’ Pudsey in his Onesie’ from Build a Bear, they made and sold bookmarks and organised an art competition. Entrants had to design a ‘Onesie’, for Pudsey. On Friday the 15th November everyone in school was asked to wear a ‘Onesie’, something spotty or something yellow and to give a donation of 50p to Children In Need.

Zumba Dancing at DPS!!

Dunoon Primary held a sponsored Zumbathon in the lunch hall of their school. All pupils thoroughly enjoyed it! The music and the atmosphere in the hall was very energetic and Dunoon Primary cant wait for another shot at this super experience. The staff of the Queens Hall led the way and pupils from P1-P7 were smiling all the way back to their classes. The staff are raring to go with their own Zumba Class! The pupils even had a wee class of their own in the playground after it at lunch time.
