Dunoon Primary P7 visit to Dunoon Sheriff Court.

Dunoon Primary P7’s were delighted to be invited to attend a tour of Dunoon Sheriff Court on Friday 31st January 2014.
The pupils were given a guided tour of the cells underneath and really detailed information on the history and day to day running of the court by Mrs Mel Drummond, Sheriff Clerk. There were quiz sheets to complete and parts were given out to pupils to create a mock court case, Harry Potter style! Sheriffs are senior lawyers who sit at the head of the court (known as the ‘bench’) and make decisions on the cases brought before them. Andrew Tyre was amazingly realistic in his role as the Sheriff and even managed to keep on the horse hair wig! Katie Cameron was the Procurator Fiscal, Emily Wishart the Lawyer, Aiden Stewart Court Officer, Mark Campbell the Police Officer, Kyle McClure and Jessica Canpbell, G4S, the world’s leading international security officers. The pupils wore official black robes and had a script to follow and this was acted out to a high standard. The remaining pupils were part of the jury and they retired to the deliberation room to consider the verdict. It was like watching a real live case!
