On Friday the 6th of March we had a coffee morning to raise money for Fairtrade. All week, each class have been learning about Fairtrade so that we would know what Fairtrade is all about. P1/2 went down to the Co-op to hunt for Fairtrade products and P3/4 studied the journey of a banana. P5/6 wrote a persuasive piece text encouraging others for or against supporting Fairtrade and P6/7 made a Fairtrade cookbook. Every class also baked a cake using Fairtrade products.

Bowmore Primary Paints the Town Red!
Bowmore Primary Salutes Mrs MacDougall.
The whole school, along with parents and friends turned up on Wednesday 11th February at Bowmore Primary to say a huge thank you to their retiring head teacher, Mrs MacDougall. She has been head teacher there for 16 years and we all wanted to say thank you and good luck! From Pre 5 to P7, we all had a special message, card, poem and song to share with Mrs MacDougall. Also, our choir sang beautifully, our Highland Dancers were very light on their feet (thanks to Breagh and Rowan for organising the repertoire) and our ensemble played with passion. It was quite an emotional morning. Mr McNulty, our minister, finished off with a special prayer. We then all enjoyed tea and cake (baked by Mrs Swarbrick, our secretary) and a fantastic buffet, prepared by our wonderful kitchen gals! We all wish Mrs MacDougall a long and happy retirement!
Bowmore Primary is ‘Tapsalteerie’!
On Tuesday 3rd February at Bowmore Primary, an appreciative audience enjoyed a child-friendly performance of our famous bard’s ‘Tam O’ Shanter’. Robert Burns’ famous poem was given the BPS treatment, creatively led by ‘Tapsalsteerie Theatre’- a unique husband and wife team from Stirling. David and Jackie Smith spent from 9.20 to 2.15 (breaks excluded of course!) with our P6s and P7s from the English and Gaelic classes.
Bowmore Primary 2/3’s Learning Festival
On Friday 25th April, a very excited P2/3 hosted a Learning Festival for their families. This was a fantastic opportunity for the children to share their learning about Homecoming Scotland. They proudly presented their personal projects, teaching their visitors about the island’s many distilleries, Scottish wildlife, dancing, musical instruments and food. There was even an opportunity to taste some shortbread which a couple of girls had baked! It was a very successful afternoon which our parents very much enjoyed.

Raising Attainment Conference 2014.
At Bowmore Primary School, we have been working hard on our amazing garden project. It was admired by Mr Don McAllister and he invited us to attend this conference. All the head teachers of Argyll and Bute were going to be there – we were very excited. We had to get up in time for the 7:00am on Monday 10th March to catch the ferry to Kennacraig. We met Mrs MacDougall and Ms Gilbert at Port Ellen. Our parent helper, Mr Swarbrick drove us there as he was coming with us. Continue reading Raising Attainment Conference 2014.

Internet Safety Caption
Nervously, on Friday 1st November 2013, we waited for Sergeant Rae to come in to teach us about the dangers of the internet.
First we learned about file sharing then cautiously we talked openly about e-mail. Crazily, most of us use e-mail often and it is very popular, although Facebook and Twitter are very well known and used as well.
Islay and Jura Schools Stramash
The P6/7 children from Islay and Jura had a fantastic four days from 24th – 27th September with the Stramash Team, in and around Oban. A brilliant range of activities including coasteering, archery, dinghy sailing and climbing, challenged everyone (including the staff!). The Stramash staff supported us all to do our best, and the team at the Oban YHA looked after us brilliantly. New friendships were made and others rekindled after the Stirling Trip in May. We’re looking forward to lots of shared learning over the rest of this session.

“I hope there are many more Learning Festivals!”
“I hope there are many more Learning Festivals!”, “ It’s a great way to discover what your child is learning and being able to join in!”, “ The school was buzzing with excitement!” These were just a few of the comments from parents and friends of Bowmore Primary School. Inspired by the SECC Learning Festival, Bowmore Primary decided to hold their very own Learning Festival on May 3rd for parents to attend. This was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to share many aspects of their learning with friends and family.

Here at Bowmore Primary, we are so proud of Natasha Thomson, P.5. Natasha’s class entered the Toyota dream Car competition and this is what happened…
‘I had to draw a picture of my dream car and I found out I had got into the World Competition!
I was so excited when I entered the Toyota Headquarters because it was soooooo big. We had lunch in a private room and it was delicious.
Red Nose Day at Bowmore Primary School
Bowmore Primary School all rocked up in red on Friday 15th March for Red Nose Day! We all put some money in the collection and raised a fantastic amount of £211.02! In the afternoon everyone from the nursery right up to Primary 7 went through to the hall and showed our fabulous Zumba skills on the Wii for a while. It was amazing and some of the teachers joined in too! It was a fantastic day and we are all so proud of how much we raised!
Carol Singing at Bowmore
The Mainstream and Gaelic pre-five units of Bowmore Primary went to visit the residents of Kirk Care on Monday 17th December. They entertained with renditions of ‘Jingle Bells’ and ‘When Santa got stuck up the Chimney’. The Gaelic pre-five children followed on with a lovely Gaelic carol. This was a lovely afternoon as the different generations enjoyed each other’s company. The children were suitably rewarded by the residents as they each left with a present, tucked under their arm – thank you so much everyone!
