Tarbert Academy Drama Club performed ‘The Pilgrimage’ by Pauk Goetzee at the Argyll Drama Festival last week! They were winners of the Youth Achievement Trophy, with the adjudicator, Kevin Boland, commenting on ‘the high standard of acting from a very talented team’. The Club is open to pupils from P7 upwards and this year’s cast ranged in age from P7 up to S5. Here they are just before going on stage!

Dalintober PS Retain Rotary Cup 2016
Duchess Woods Cross Country
Speedy runners from Rhu scooped top prizes in the Duchess Woods Cross Country relays.
In the Primary 6 girls race Sasha Walker, Louisa Brown and Roisin Kavanagh all put in top class performances and galloped home in first place to take the gold medals. While the nippy boys team of Ross Carmichael, Max Brannan and William Harrison put up a strong performance against toug competition to secure third place. However, their combined times put them in the top spot for winning the overall Primary 6 shield.
Pipers scoop second prize in national championship!
Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships Quartet Competition was a great celebration of the talent of our young people. A Mid-Argyll quartet scooped second prize in their category. The Championships took place on Sunday 13th March 2016 with young people delivering outstanding performances in all categories, from quartets to experienced bands in the Novice Juvenile categories. Inter-Schools Athletics Competition
Rockfield ‘A’ Team Lifts the Prize!
Rockfield competed in and won the inter-schools athletics competition held recently at Atlantis Leisure. The competition was broken down into a Rural Schools challenge and an Oban Schools challenge, with the three top teams from each of these events going through to the final. The pupils were able to participate in a wide variety of events and really enjoyed being part of a team. A fantastic result!
Helensburgh Rotary Club Competition winners
Kilcreggan Primary School are celebrating the wonderful achievement of two pupils this week. Sam Holt, Primary 5, and Agnes Borland Sinclair, Primary 7 both won gold medals in the Helensburgh Rotary Club Writing Competition. Sam won the junior section while Agnes was intermediate section winner. Both stories will now go forward to the National Rotary Club Schools Writing Competition.

Luss WRI Visit
Mrs Thomson and Mrs Buchanan from Luss WRI visited the school recently to judge the children’s creations for their WRI competition. Each year the children make something for the ladies to judge and the winners are presented with a trophy. This year Rhys from P5 won the P4-7 category with his flower press and Lucy from P3 won the P1-3 category with her basket.
Mid-Argyll pupil council ‘Reading is Fun’ event
The children in the Mid-Argyll pupil council have been working together over the last few months to organise a ‘Reading is Fun’ event.
They ran two competitions, one for children in 1st level and one for 2nd Level to come up with a book character to encourage reading in these age groups.

Green Flag – Drumlemble Primary
Drumlemble Primary School are delighted to announce that they have been awarded their third green flag. All of the children in the school have been working incredibly hard to achieve this. It has been wonderful to see all of the children fully involved in working towards their targets. Next term the children will build Eco into their Inter Disciplinary Learning and will work together to improved the school grounds. The children would like to thank Mrs McAlister and Mrs Black for their hard work and dedication in order to help them be to achieve this.
Dunoon Primary ‘A’ Team Win Inter School Volleyball Tournament
Dunoon Primary won the annual inter Primary School tournament on Wednesday 2nd March organised by Mrs McLean. The teams From Kirn, St Mun’s, Strachur, Lochgoilhead, Tighnabruaich and Sandbank were a credit to their schools as they played with skill and enjoyed the day! Dunoon A and B teams both fought hard to get to the semi finals. the draw was made and they ended up playing each other to put one team through to the final round.

Success at the School Bulb Competition
Young Leaders at Strone Primary School
Strone Primary School signed up for the Argyll and Bute Young Leaders Award delivered by Andy Trull the Active Schools Co-ordinator. 10 pupils have just successfully completed the training. After looking at the qualities that a Young Leader should have the pupils looked in more detail about how to organise activity sessions and manage situations. They quickly learnt how to adapt activities and even to invent new games.
Swimming and Badminton Success at Dalintober PS
Dalintober PS has been celebrating recent sporting achievements this week. Five pupils travelled to Glasgow to represent the school in the National Schools’ Swimming Championship. Euan finished 22nd overall in the 50m Freestyle with a PB. Astrid, Logan, Sophie and Claudia qualified a very impressive 3rd in their heat, and 13th overall in the 4x50m Freestyle Relay – the youngest team in the finals – also with a PB.

Lochgilphead High School – Argyll Brass SBBA Finals
Congratulations to five Lochgilphead High School pupils that competed last weekend at the Besson Scottish Solo & Ensemble Championships in Livingston. Jessica Tanner (trumpet), Freya Corner (trumpet), Sioned Phillips (tenor horn), Alistair Cupples (euphonium) and Gavin Johnson (tuba) competed in the Youth class for 21 years and under and were awarded a third place.

Southend Primary Gets Third Green Flag!
At Southend Primary School and ELCC we have been awarded our 3rd green flag! Our Eco Group have been monitoring litter in the playground, improving both playground areas by introducing a pond, wild flower area and grass for outdoor studies. The Pavillion has had recycled bottles put into the windows to reduce the draught. The Wendy House, Pavillion, benches and gardening boxes have all been repainted and we had fun measuring and marking games on the playground.
Innellan Primary School Wildlife Watch Group
The pupils at Innellan Primary School have received a ‘Level 4-Thriving It’s Your Neighbourhood Award’.
The School is continuing to develop an area of waste ground in order to attract as wide a variety of wildlife as possible. Members of the community help the children with growing seeds and planting, and the children get involved in environmental art, making it a fun and productive space.

Taynuilt win Oban Library Reading Den Competition with an Igloo!
Taynuilt Nursery children have created and designed their very own milk bottle igloo. We have been collecting the empty bottles from our snack each day for a whole year! We started the first layer in October and is looking like an igloo, ice castle, Santa’s grotto, an animal den……..the list is endless. Our recent topic – Caring and Helping our Environment gave the children a clear focus on how we can reduce, reuse and recycle every day objects! Our more recent topic was Storytime which led us into World Book Week and to a BookBug Session as our topic celebration, and now the children are using it for their library where Winter and Christmas stories are favourable. Feel free to visit our Igloo for a story anytime!
Road Safety Calendar Success at Rothesay Primary
At Rothesay Primary we all love to take part in the Road Safety Calendar Competition. We know that there are lots of entries from across Argyll and Bute and are always very proud when our pupils get a Highly Commended or even win a prize! This year was no exception with 11 pupils receiving Highly Commended, two fourth, three second and one first prize! Congratulations to everyone that took part.
