Yesterday saw our Primary 7/6 class working very hard with Shona Freeman from One Day Creative on a drama based on the Commonwealth Games. Pupils spent the morning learning their parts for a story about a young boy whose talents lay in sporting activities. Billy was training to take part in the Junior Commonwealth Games and couldn’t believe what he was seeing when his teacher introduced him to an athelete who would help him train. St Joseph’s Visit The Sunshine Room
Primary 2’s from St Joseph’s Primary School had a very special morning when they visited their classmates at The Sunshine Room Nurture Group at Parklands School. The pupils came together for a storyteller event by Bea Ferguson. Bea told some great stories, she told us one about a possum and some fairies who loved cakes, she also taught us some funny songs. BRAZILLIAN STREET BAND
For the last six weeks pupils from P5-P7 have been taking drumming lessons from Roddy, a member of the CAST team and today saw the final performance. Pupils and parents were invited to attend and we had a packed audience. Everyone had such a great time. There was clapping, cheering and even dancing in aisles. Our band has now been invited to join the Sea Change Festival Parade on Saturday 21st June, so if you want a fun day out go along and join in (details in local press).
Oban Musical Success for Rockfield Pupils
Children from Oban’s Rockfield Primary had a fantastic time at the recent Highlands and Islands Music and Dance Festival, taking part in a range of competitions involving over 100 children from pre-school to P7.
The Festival’s Action Song class is an event in itself. Rockfield’s Gaelic pre-school and P2/1 Gaelic class performed Seo a’ Chroit aig Calum Ruadh, a Gaelic version of ‘Old MacDonald Had a Farm’, while the P2 classes performed The Fireman.

Oban Pupils Present Prize-winning Gaelic Drama
Pupils from Rockfield Primary School’s P1-4 Gaelic classes performed a prize-winning play at the recent Argyll and Lochaber Gaelic Drama Festival, held in Oban’s Corran Halls.
The children presented ‘An t-Each Acrach’ about a very hungry horse, and were delighted that their performance was awarded the prize for best costumes and props.

Blythswood Enterprise Challenge
Primary 7 at Park School recently took part in the Blythswood Enterprise competition. For this, they were given £20 to start a business in order to raise money to provide fire engines in Eastern Europe. The class had 4 weeks to make this money grow so they decided to create a moustache themed stationery shop.
Art Exhibition by Furnace and Minard Primaries
The children in Furnace and Minard primaries held an Art Exhibition in Furnace Primary on Wednesday night to raise money to help pay the education fees of children in Pelandaba orphanage in Zimbabwe. Ex Head Teacher, Mrs Cindy MacDonald, had visited the schools to talk to the children about the work she does for the charity and everyone agreed they wanted to help. The idea of holding an art exhibition was made and everyone has been very busy preparing for it. The exhibition will remain open to visitors on Thursday and Friday. The money raised so far is close to £300.

Rockfield Egyptian Day
To celebrate the end of their topic, both Primary 3 classes in Rockfield Primary enjoyed an Ancient Egyptian morning which was packed full of activities. They tasted healthy Egyptian food, designed an Egyptian tunic, made a scarab beetle biscuit, had their faces painted and decorated Egyptian jewellery.
In the afternoon, the children had a book launch for their Egyptian adventure stories. Parents and carers came along to join in the fun and were extremely impressed with the children’s hard work.
Shadowing the Kate Greenaway Award for Illustrations at Kirn Primary
P3 have been taking part in the Kate Greenaway Awards by ‘Shadowing’ the judges on this very prestigious prize for book illustration. Kirn’s PTA generously funded the purchase of the seven shortlisted books, and P3 are reading them, commenting and discussing each one then posting their thoughts on the national website, along with thousands of others.

Onesies and Cake……The Perfect Day!
On Friday 16th May Rosneath Primary School held a Onesie and Cake Sale Day to raise money for the Sunday Mail Centenary Fund. This fund supports many worthy charities, such as: Breast Cancer Care, CHAS, Childline, Erskine, Shelter and many more.
All children arrived to school in their colourful onesies and laden with yummy cakes to sell. In class each all pupils took part in a ‘Design a Onesie’ competition, in which the winning designer from each class received a certificate and prize.
Easdale Art Award!
Congratulations to Aaron MacLarty from P3 Easdale Primary who was awarded a Special Merit in the Tesco Bank Art Competition.
There were over 7,000 entries from all over Scotland so to be amongst the winners was a major achievement.
His winning entry, a collage of a soldier drumming, will be displayed at the Scottish National Gallery Edinburgh from 7th June – 28th October.
Egypt Topic Celebration in Rhu P4!
Rhu P4 recently celebrated the end of their Ancient Egypt topic with an open afternoon. Parents were invited and children dressed up in a variety of fantastic costumes. Mummies, pharaohs, farmers, craftsmen and even Egyptian gods could be seen! The children treated the crowd to their performance of the song ‘Amazing Egyptians’ before giving them a tour around the class to view the displayed work. The class also enjoyed a trip to the Ancient Egypt exhibition at Kelvingrove Art Galleries to enhance the topic and had fun acting out ‘Life After Death’ drama. Well done P4!
Garelochhead Primary School Art Project
P6/5 have enjoyed visits from two artists to help with their topic work. As part of their Beyond the Panda topic, a member of the local Art Club gave up her time to help the children to make Chinese bowls out of papier mache, clay pandas, and a wall hanging with cherry blossom and Chinese calligraphy.
Oliver’ Performance at Park Primary
Staff, pupils, and parents were treated to a very enjoyable musical performance by Mrs Lind’s P5 class during their recent production of “Oliver’. The class had been studying ‘The Victorians’, and had spent several weeks working very hard to learn their songs and lines. Several children sang solo parts and were highly praised for their lovely singing voices – some stars of the future we think!

National Fairtrade Snack Attack Competition 2014
Lismore Primary School children were delighted to hear that they have been awarded first place in the National Fairtrade Snack Attack Competition 2014. Schools from all over the United Kingdom and further afield competed to design a fun Fairtrade snack, together with its packaging, a marketing campaign and a report about their activities. Led by Classroom Assistant, Hazel MacCormick, the Lismore children worked together as a company, brainstorming and presenting ideas before splitting into groups to take on the different responsibilities of graphic design, marketing and logistics.

Numeracy Across the Curriculum @ Kilmartin
T
o help the children understand the importance of numeracy skills in the world outside of the classroom and to give the children an exciting context for their learning, all of the children at Kilmartin P.S. visited Portavadie Marina for lunch. The trip was wonderful, the food and service from the Portavadie staff was second to none but…the children had to do a considerable amount of work prior to the trip to earn this fabulous reward! They studied ferry timetables, investigated ticket prices, learned the difference between a single journey, a return ticket and a 6 ticket deal.
CHIEF CHEBE VISITS KILMODAN
As part as our Commonwealth topic, we invited Chief Chebe from Ghana to visit. Cheerful Chief Chebe arrived to a welcome of Ghanaian songs and colourful banners. The day started with some tunes on the African xylophone, which some of us even got to play. Next we did some thunderous drumming on the djembe drums.
