The Hands-On Cove Park Holiday Art Club offers a blast of creativity every day!
Prints of Play! is for children aged 8-11 interested in art, experimenting with colour, shape, texture and pattern. During a course of four daily sessions, 09:30-11:30 from Monday 17 – Thursday 20 October 2016, children will experiment with ideas around the theme of ‘play’ to create a series of quick, inspirational paper collages that will be used to inform a stencil design to print one or more t-shirt designs that they can go on to wear.

JLB Harvest the Seeds of Success
Children at John Logie Baird Primary School have been working with Waitrose to develop Enterprise and business skills across the school. Following the pupils planning, measuring building and filling their own raised beds, Waitrose donated seeds to the school. Each class divided them up and planted them. Over the summer term, each class tended to their crop, and to their astonishment, after returning in August, a huge crop was ripe and ready to harvest.
Luing Pupils Visit The Atlantic Island Centre
On Monday 3rd October the pupils from Luing Primary visited the Atlantic Island Centre on Luing to see the farming exhibition. Jane MacLachlan and Col MacDougall showed the children round and explained some of the exhibits and photographs. Col, who had worked on the farm for 55 years, answered lots of questions about how farming has changed. All of the children found it very interesting and they especially enjoyed seeing relatives and neighbours in a lot of the old photographs. MacMillan Cancer Support Coffee Afternoon
Primary 6 and 7 of Southend Primary School organised and held a Coffee Afternoon on Friday 30th September to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support where the terrific sum of £436.20 was raised. A huge thank you to Mrs Galbraith who helped organise this, and to all who gave so generously and came to support this very worthwhile cause. It is very much appreciated.
4th Green Flag for Furnace
On Sunday 25th September 2016 the pupils, parents and staff of Furnace Primary celebrated being awarded our 4th Eco-Schools Green Flag. Our celebration morning started early on Sunday with a garden taskforce made up of parents and pupils setting about clearing our wildlife garden and pond, cutting back bushes, making bottle sides for our plastic bottle greenhouse and generally tidying up our school grounds and gardens. We found some interesting marine life in our pond in the process. Our volunteers were rewarded for all their hard work with a picnic lunch and a fantastic “Green Flag” cake made by Mrs Baird. Dalintober P7 MacMillan Success
The Primary 7 pupils of Dalintober Primary always host a Coffee Morning in aid of MacMillan Cancer and this year was no exception. The pupils made great preparations for the event beforehand, organising stalls and competitions, writing to local companies and planning roles for everyone on the day. They demonstrated fantastic organisation skills and teamwork and raised a grand total of £643! They were extremely grateful to the adult helpers who came in to lend a hand as well. Caring Parents of St Joseph’s!
St Joseph’s was delighted to see the newly decorated memorial tree for former pupil Bridget Sharkey this week. Staff had wanted to prune the tree to keep it looking its best in Bridget’s memory and so approached John Kennedy, a parent of the school and expert gardener for his help. As with many of St. Joseph’s parents, John was delighted to assist and indeed came up with the idea of creating a beautiful border round the tree to focus attention.

Right on Track at Rockfield Primary!
Pupils from Primary 6 and Primary 7 in Rockfield school recently took part in active workshops, which focussed on being safe around trains, train stations and railway tracks. These safety workshops were provided by Scotrail and encouraged the pupils to think about all of the issues surrounding rail safety. The workshops included discussion work and drama activities, which the pupils really enjoyed.

• understanding the practical, emotional, educational and social challenges children from Armed Forces families face as a result deployment or mobility;
• identifying strategies for supporting children within both teaching and pastoral roles;

Minard Eco Team’s Harvest Gifts to Neighbours
On Friday 16th September 2016 Minard Eco Team delivered Harvest Gift Bags to the houses which are our nearest neighbours. We managed to fill nine Harvest Bags with produce grown by us from Spring 2016 in our school garden. Our neighbours were delighted to receive the Harvest Gift Bags of carrots, onions, potatoes, leeks and we even managed to make 2 jars of plum jam with the plums from our plum trees. One of our neighbours gave us a bowl of damsons with a note “Thank you so much for your gift and veggies. Dalintober PTA Coffee Evening Fundraiser Success
Members of the Dalintober PS & ELC community enjoyed a very successful and busy Coffee Evening, organised by the school’s PTA. The event included a baking stall, raffles, a nail bar, ‘Hit the Target’ and refreshments. A fantastic sum of £1150 was raised on the evening. Thank you to all involved. Grandparents’ Day at Rothesay Primary Pre5
The boys and girls at Rothesay Primary Pre5 were delighted to welcome lots of grannies, grandpas, papas, grans, pops, nans and nanas to our nursery recently. As you can see, all our visitors were keen to join in the fun from painting to play dough to singing and dancing! They thought our nursery was a great place to learn and make new friends. Eco brambling
The Eco-committee, Gill and Caroline harvested some brambles which will be used to make jam. Later in the week the whole school will get to sample the jam. We can’t wait.
An unusual helper popped up in the shape of 11 year old tortoise, Humphrey. He lives near the school and loves company.
Castlehill Primary 6 Beach Clean
Primary 6 from Castlehill Primary School took part in a beach clean with Wayne Dixon and his dog Koda.
Wayne is currently walking the coast of Britain picking litter as he goes. He hopes to complete his journey over the next 3 years.
Primary 6 worked extremely hard and in only one hour collected 16 large bin bags of rubbish, along with crates, welly boots, clothing and even a picnic bench and table!
Marching Back to School in Style
Pupils at Kilcreggan Primary had a warm welcome back to school at the start of term. Piper Harvey Ferguson piped the pupils into school on the first day back. Primary Seven pupils led the children and staff into the building while parents watched . Primary 1 pupils were the last to enter giving parents big smiles and cheerful waves as they went.
Inverness 10k
SPS Runners
Ellen and Gemma MacRae of Salen Primary School raised £570 for Cancer Research UK by running the Inverness 10k. Well done girls! You ran an amazing distance and collected a phenomenal amount of money.
They are so keen on running and sports. They also achieved a 1st and 2nd place at the Tiree Fitness Kids Event.

DGS Learning Centre at Kirn Gala
On Wednesday 24th August Dunoon Grammar School’s learning centre had a stall at Kirn Gala.
On our stall we had lots of Different plants, Home baking, Tablet, Fudge, Home grown Organic Vegetables and Herbs
The weather was very kind to us, The sun was shining and it was very busy .We had a very successful evening. We raised £206.49
We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped us.
Cowal Inter Sports Winners !
Cowal Highland Gathering Stadium was the venue for the Active Schools Sports Day. This year they decided to change the format of the annual sports event to increase participation within the local primary schools.
