Maths Challenge

Mr Priest would like to extend congratulations to Joshua Finnie (S1), Libby MacLean (S1), Bethany Walsh (S2) and Robbie Ireland (S2) who represented Dunoon Grammar School excellently against strong competition at the UKMT Team Maths challenge in Falkirk. After four rounds, including an intense relay race, marks were tallied and we ranked 15th place!

Film G Winners!

Congratulations to Ms McDonald’s S4 Film G team. ‘Tha an t-acras gam tholladh’ won the Film G Theme Award category for the film that interprets the FilmG theme – ‘Hunger/Desire’ – in the most original, engaging and inspirational way. Dunoon Volleyball Tournament

The Annual Interschool Volleyball Tournament took place today at Dunoon Grammar School. Dunoon had 6 teams. Each one played very well with 2 teams getting to the semi final and the final. Lauren, Luke and Jack went through to the final against a strong Kirn Team C who won the match. A great day was had by all the Primary 7’s and there were lots of happy smiling faces to be seen around the hall.

Toyota dream Car competition

Here at Bowmore Primary, we are so proud of Natasha Thomson, P.5. Natasha’s class entered the Toyota dream Car competition and this is what happened…
‘I had to draw a picture of my dream car and I found out I had got into the World Competition!
I was so excited when I entered the Toyota Headquarters because it was soooooo big. We had lunch in a private room and it was delicious.

Rockfield PS athletics competition in Atlantis

We are very proud of our P5 pupils who took part in the annual athletics competition in Atlantis Leisure. Rockfield had 2 teams in the final, Rockfield A and Rockfield B, and we are delighted to say that our B team won first place in the competition and our A team came second! The children worked very hard to improve their skills and should be very proud of their achievements

INTER-SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY

Our primary 6/7 class took part in the Inter-Schools Cross Country Competition held at the old Hermitage Academy last Friday. Despite very cold and damp conditions they all enjoyed themselves and participated enthusiastically. A big thank-you to Martin Caldwell and his team for organising the event and to all those parents and staff who attended last Friday.

Lochgilphead High School Badminton Players

The end of January saw a really busy time for Lochgilphead High School Badminton players. For the first time since coming to the new campus, LHS hosted the MAKI (Mid Argyll Kintrye and Islay) Badminton tournament. Four pupils (two boys and two girls) from each year group took part in the competition which lasted for the whole day! Everyone played well and the event was very sporting and although we did not win all the events, we did dominate and win the S3, S5 and S6 tournaments.

GO ROSNEATH!!!

We are very, very proud of our Cross Country runners. At the annual Cross Country Run for P6 and P7 pupils in Helensburgh this morning our little peninsula school sent 14 runners and gained 2 x 3rd places, 1 x 4th place, 1 x 5th place, 1 x 12th place and 1 x 13th place. What an achievement!! ALL our runners crossed that Finish Line to earn a well-deserved medal.

Rockfield Primary School “Design a Bag” Success!

Schools from the Oban area were invited by Tesco to enter a competition to design a bag to launch their new ‘Click and Collect’ service and Rockfield were lucky enough to have the winner in their school! Our winning designer got his logo printed onto reusable bags and every family in the school was given one for free. As well as this, he was also awarded a £25 gift card for himself to spend and a £250 cheque for the school. Well done!

Rockfield Primary School National Writing Competition

Some of our Primary 6 and 7 pupils were delighted to hear that they had been awarded prizes after taking part in a national writing competition. The children entered a writing competition organised by Scottish Ballet that was based on the story of Hansel and Gretel.

Lots of fantastic pieces of work were produced by the classes involved and lots of hard work and effort that was put into the pieces of writing so everyone was delighted when a letter arrived to the school to inform us that one of our pupils was a winner!

BBC visit Rockfield

The children in the Gaelic classes in Rockfield got a huge surprise last Monday when a crew from the BBC turned up at the school! The pupils had taken part in some filming for Gaelic television programme “Dè a nis?” earlier this year and were delighted to be told by the television presenters that out of 16 schools, the pupils from Rockfield were the fastest on space hoppers! Lorn Mathsfest 2013

On the 12th February the Annual Lorn Mathsfest was held in Oban High School. Forty-eight S1 pupils were joined by forty-eight P7 pupils from the associated Primary Schools. The pupils worked in teams of four. To be successful team work was as important as mathematical ability. The Assembly Hall was a hive of activity as the pupils attempted to solve maths problems and puzzles throughout the day, one of which was in French or one in Gaelic!

The Bard Brings Success to Lochnell

Lochnell pupils enjoyed a lovely day at the recent Burns Competition held at the Argyllshire Gathering Halls, which two of their P7 pupils along with pupils from Rockfield and Kilninver had helped to organise. The pupils of Lochnell enjoyed success on the day and later put on a concert in Lochnell for all of the school to showcase their poetry recital, singing and musical skills.

Achaleven Primary Fanatical for Fairtrade!

Thanks to all those who came along to our Fairtrade Tea Party at the school on Friday. There was lovely tea and coffee and some great banana loaf, curtesy of Anne MacKenzie, along with a few other fairtrade nibbles. We are very proud to say that £45.53 was raised on the day which has been passed to the Oban and Lorn Fairtrade Steering Group.

Fun in Fundraising at Barcaldine!

Barcaldine Primary School has been enjoying the opportunity to raise funds for two different charities as well as incorporating our cycling activities towards our Big Pedal competition.

Today we all dressed in yellow to raise money for Cancer Research. The money that we are donating will help the Marie Curie Nurses provide more free care to people with terminal illnesses in their own homes. Continue reading Fun in Fundraising at Barcaldine!

Barcaldine – Big Pedal 2013

Barcaldine Primary School are again participating in The Big Pedal 2013.

The Big Pedal is a giant inter-school virtual cycling competition running from 28th February until 20 March 2013. It works a bit like the Tour de France but in the UK we are following Sustrans cycle routes around Great Britain.

WOW @ Lochnell

Pupils at Lochnell Primary School were thrilled to receive a visit from Chris Thompson of Living Streets, who congratulated them on all the great work they had put in to their walk once a week campaign over the last two years. After informing them they had won an award for being school of the month, he set them the challenge of increasing the number of WOW (Walk once a Week) awards earned.

Tarbert Academy, Toyota Dream Car Art Competition

Jack Faulkner, an S2 pupil at Tarbert Academy has won the 13-15 age category at the UK finals of the Toyota Dream Car Competition in which pupils had to design the car of their dreams.. Jack was flown down to Toyota headquarters in Surrey to receive his prize of an Ipad Mini and other merchandise.
