Primary 1 and Primary 3/2 at Garelochhead primary have been looking after butterflies. They watched them grow from very tiny caterpillars, to huge big ones, before they turned into chrysalises. The butterflies took their time turning into butterflies and then they were set free. Primary 3/2 collected lots of natural things from the garden to make the butterflies at home in their habitat. The classes were very excited to see that the butterflies liked to eat fruit. Both classes enjoyed exploring the life cycle through observations of the real thing.

The Sunshine Room Nurture Group Farm Visit
The Sunshine Room Nurture Group from Parklands School have been reading the novel Charlotte’s Web, to find out more about life on a farm they visited Mid Auchencarroch Farm in Jamestown. They met John the farmer who told them what life was like living and working on a farm, they got to meet a calf that was born only the day before and they learned about how to care for lambs. Outdoor Learning – Community and Parent Links at St. Joseph’s!
Outdoor Learning has really taken off at St. Joseph’s! Whilst Mrs Thomson and Mrs Savage have been leading developments in the school with Ross, the Pre-5 staff have linked the parental ‘Fun First Fridays’ with outdoor learning, allowing the parents to work and read with their children outdoors. Such is the commitment of the staff to continue to improve this aspect of learning; they are determined not to let the weather stop them.

Kirn’s P6 have “the BEST time EVER” at Ardentinny
Kirn Primary’s P6 children had an amazing time at Ardentinny Outdoor Centre and in just under four days managed to rock-hop, safari on the seashore, abseil, waterfall climb, forest walk, orienteer, eat great food, disco and have the Best Time EVER! Everyone had a fantastic time and lots of happy memories to bring home.

St Andrews Digital Art Programme Creates a Dragon Invasion!
Pupils at St Andrew’s Primary have been helping to pilot digital art projects using paint.net. They have been improving their creative technology skills to search, store, manilpulate images and tell stories. St George’s Day on Thursday inspired a dragon invasion across Bute for P4/5. This dragon was spotted by Erin, of Mrs Spencer’s P4/5 class, on the lawn at Mount Stuart another was seen by Emma attacking an ogre at the Winter Gardens!
CROSS COUNTRY RELAY AT DUCHESS WOODS
Rosneath Primary took part in the above event with other Helensburgh & Lomond Primary Schools on Thursday 23rd April. What a glorious morning! Ideal weather, ideal terrain under foot, lots of enthusiastic Runners.

Dunoon Primary Celebrate the International Year of Light The reallysmallscience group, from Strathclyde University, helped pupils at Dunoon Primary to celebrate the International Year of Light 2015.
Classes took part in ‘nanoglow’ fluorescent workshops to learn why light is so important and discover natural and everyday items that glow. Pupils then used invisible ink pens to write secret messages and produce their very own glowing artwork.

Bowmore is ‘Greentastic’!
Bowmore Primary have done it again! By hard work and dedication, we have earned our fourth Green Flag as an eco-school! Not only do we maintain our eco way of life by litter-picking, saving energy, composting peelings and running a healthy tuck, we have made time to improve our school grounds. Our raised beds and rockery are now well established and used to their full potential.
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY FOR A “WEE” RUN!!!
On Saturday 18th April in the grounds of Kirkcaldy High School, Fife, Team Rosneath joined 1,000 other P6 and P7 pupils for the 28th Annual Cross Country Championships. What a hard course, what a challenge but our athletes ALL crossed that all important Finish Line!
Legion Scotland Primary Schools Competition 2014/15 – Stories of WWI’s Families
Both Kilniver and Port Ellen Primary School are through to the voting stage of the Scottish Legion story writing and photo competition. Schools who entered this competition investigated how the outbreak of World War One impacted on the families in their local communities and the effect that it had on the day-to-day lives around them. Ten children from the winning school will receive a unique VIP experience at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo!

St. Mun’s Explore The Rainforest…. In Cornwall
After scooping the coveted Eden Award, at the Rolls Royce Science Awards, held at the Science Centre in London, last November, with their Biodiversity project entitled ‘If You Go Down In The Woods Today’, the children of Primary 7, along with their teacher, set about planning the 1,100 mile round trip visit to The Eden Project, St. Austell in Cornwall.

Primary 7s at St. Mun’s Show Off Their Inventions
The pupils of St. Mun’s Primary have just completed their designs ahead of the deadline for the Scottish Engineering Leaders Award for STEM 2014/15. The Awards challenged Primary and Secondary school pupils across Scotland to research and interview inspiring engineers, providing them with a fantastic opportunity to engage with real engineers who could convey the importance of STEM in their daily working lives.

Cardross Primary Netball Success
Cardross Primary had a fantastic end to the netball term by winning the annual Lomond Primary Netball Tournament. The team faced stiff competition from Colgrain Primary in the semi-final and Hermitage Primary in the final. Well done to everyone involved.

We held our very own Book Week. This involved writing book reviews, class talks about our favourite books and dressing up as our favourite book characters. We also had parents come in to read to us. John McCallum from the Campbeltown Courier came to our school to talk about his job. We asked lots of questions and found out lots of information about being a journalist.

Oban High’s XL Group
Pupils from Oban High’s XL Group have been working in the Community Garden at Glencruitten run by H2O. They have been building planters to help disabled people access planting and benches for people to sit and admire the gardens. They have been working towards their Community Project for XL and their Dynamic Youth Awards for helping others in the community.
Park Primary 3 Authors!
This term Primary 3 in Park Primary School have been learning all about stories and books! We visited Waterstones and the Oban Library to find out how books are created and shared. Then we wrote our own stories and published them in book format. On Friday 27th March we hosted a book launch assembly for the rest of the school and lots of parents and other family members who came to share and celebrate our learning.
Chicks Hatched and Re-homed at St. Joseph’s!
‘One of the best projects our school has ever done!’….quote from one of the admiring parents as she viewed the newly hatched chicks recently at St. Joseph’s Primary School in Helensburgh. 11 fertilised eggs had been purchased by the school in the middle of March to bring alive the learning in P3 and P6 as they studied ‘The Owl Who was Afraid of The Dark’ and ‘Animals around the World’ respectively.

Outdoor Learning at Minard
The children at Minard Primary School have been using their grounds to enhance their learning. Recently they have been hard at work designing a trim trail round the playground using natural resources. The children do laps at least three times a week and then convert the metres into kms then into miles. Next, they mark their progress by plotting the joint distance travelled on a map of Scotland. They hope to reach John O’Groats by the summer holidays! (They’ve reached Cairndow so far.)
Luing and Easdale pupils enjoy a trip to Oban Airport!
Early level pupils from Luing and Easdale decided to visit Oban Airport as part of their transport topic. They enjoyed looking around the air traffic control tower before watching the Colonsay plane land! They were even allowed to sit on the plane. The firemen at the airport then showed the children their special fire engine and let them sit in the driver’s seat with the flashing lights on. The firemen also demonstrated how far the water shoots out from the hose. The children were excited to watch a helicopter landing. We all had a wonderful day!
