SANDBANK PUPILS HELP TO ‘SEND MY FRIEND TO SCHOOL’
The pupils of Sandbank Primary School and the Early Learning and Childcare Unit are very aware of how lucky they are to have access to a safe and stable school environment where they can learn and have fun together with their friends. They, along with their teachers, know that this is unfortunately not the case for all children around the world and the school regularly has participated in the “Send My Friend to School Project”

Transition Time at Colgrain
It’s been a very busy few weeks for the Pre-5 boys and girls who will be coming to Primary 1 in Colgrain! All boys and girls have had the opportunity to come to school and see the classrooms while taking part in lots of exciting activities. We have explored the outdoor environment during our Free Flow sessions, and even planted some of our own vegetables! We have enjoyed meeting ‘Percy the Park Keeper’ and his animal companions.
‘World of Work’ Week at Dalintober PS and ELCC
Pupils at Dalintober & ELCC embarked on a journey of discovery through the world of work.
The week involved a range of visits to places of work in the local area and the school also welcomed a wide variety of visitors through its doors to work with classes.
ELCC had a visit from our School Crossing Patroller and the children loved taking turns to hold the lollipop.

Yoga sessions at Drumlemble
The children of Drumlemble Nursery Class had a special visitor last week; Rachel Edwards introduced them to yoga. The children thoroughly enjoyed the session and are looking forward to two more taking place in May and June.
Big Pedal at Taynuilt Nursery
Taynuilt Nursery children brought a variety of bikes and scooters to Nursery as part of the Big Pedal Week and also used the Nursery bikes and scooters on our Wednesday Gym session. This will be done again this week so hope the sun shines on us all again!
Walk a Mile for Malawi!
On Wednesday 30th March, all of the boys and girls from Colgrain Pre-5 Unit right up to P7 took part in a special event to raise money for the Nora Docherty Foundation that has built schools and supports children in the Dedza region of Malawi. We had to walk a mile round the African village that had been set up in our school grounds.
Science Fun Day at Sandbank Primary
On Wednesday 30th March the children of Sandbank Primary and Pre-5 Unit enjoyed a Science Fun Day. The day blasted off with a whole school assembly about Fantastic Forces. Some pupils were pushed, pulled and stretched in the name of science as they explored the effects of friction and gravity.
Bowmore’s Super Spring Fayre!
We held our very first Spring Fayre at Bowmore Primary on Wednesday 30th March. The sky was blue, the sun was shining and there was an air of excitement within the school! Beautiful crafts were created by our children, from cute wee birdhouses to Easter egg flowers! Our ECO committee sold their home-grown plants and organised a second hand book and toy stall which proved very popular.
Strath of Appin – Magnificent Masks!
Pre school and primary pupils at Strath of Appin Primary show-off their crafty masks. As part of their whole school homework challenge the pupils had to design and make an Easter or spring-themed mask. A wonderful assortment of masks were made and brought in to school where the pupils enjoyed wearing them to their Easter Service at Appin Church.
EMPTY CLASSROOMS IN CASTLEHILL!
Empty classrooms, shouts of encouragement and bright rosy faces ………..it can only mean one thing, Castlehill pupils and staff are all outside taking part in the Sport Relief Mile!
Sport Relief’ Fundraising at Dalintober PS and ELCC
Pupils of Dalintober PS and ELCC held a number of fundraising events for ‘Sport Relief’, including bootcamps, a zumbathon and fitness challenges. The pupils raised a fantastic £1619.18 for the charity and would like to thank members of the school community for their kind and generous donations and sponsors.

Colgrain Primary School early and first level Technology Day
On Friday 11th March, Colgrain Primary School had their early and first level Technology Day. The event saw the introduction of our fantastic new iPads, which have been purchased through funding bids and fundraising. To coincide with World Book Day, children dressed up as their favourite book character and used iPad apps to investigate books and stories. Pupils worked collaboratively within mixed stage groups, to create fun posters, comic strips, animation movies and books.

Strachur Early Level Class Trip
On Thursday 11th March the early level class visited the recycling centre in Dunoon. Mr Wheeler gave us a tour of the centre and we saw someone pick up a skip with a big truck. We saw lots of different kinds of things that people had thrown away that can be recycled. Mrs Leyland put the batteries from our school into the section for recycling batteries. We learned that some items are taken away from Dunoon as they contain harmful gases. Also, we saw some bricks and stones that were going to be made into new roads. It was a great day and we really enjoyed it.

World Book Day at Strachur
Strachur Primary and Pre-5 had so much fun celebrating World Book Day last Thursday. Staff and pupils dressed as their favourite character from a book and we shared snippets from our favourite books from home. The Pre-5 children enjoyed a Bookbug session in the morning and the older pupils read to our P1-2 in the afternoon. We have also spent some money on a new library for the school – house captains helped organise the books and everyone got to take one home on loan. It was a very busy day!

World Book Day at Taynuilt Nursery
Staff…………………..well, Little Red Riding Hood’s Granny, Cinderella’s ugly Stepsisters and Stepmother celebrated World Book Day with the children from Taynuilt Nursery on Friday. Everyone dressed up as a charachter from their favourite story book or Nursery Rhyme. We read a avariety of traditional fairytales which the children choose and listened to with delight.
Great fun and giggles were had by all!
World Book Day at Rothesay Primary
As usual, World Book Day was a great success at Rothesay Primary. To celebrate 100 years of Roald Dahl, pupils dressed up as one of his characters or a character from their favourite book. We had all sorts – Miss Trunchbull, The Grand High Witch, Charlie Bucket, Willy Wonka and a crowd of Oompa-Loompas! Our local book shop, Print Point, moved into the library so that everyone could spend their book tokens and the school pupil librarians went round the classes sharing their favourite books.
Nature Play at Rhino Camp
Children in the Early Level at Rhunahaorine have been exploring the local woodland and burn at our new base, which we have decided to call Rhino Camp. We have been enjoying extended imaginative play sessions, developing language skills, cooperation and negotiation and motor skills. We have been learning to manage risk and challenge.
Gigha Bookbug
Children at Gigha Primary School, ELCC and toddler group celebrated World Book Day with a special visit from Bookbug Parents and children really got into the spirit of the day and dressed up as their favourite characters.
We would love to welcome Bookbug back again!
Strachur Early Level Class Forest School
Our early level class have had two very exciting sessions of Forest School led by our P1-2 teacher, Mrs Leyland. Our Pre-5, Primary 1 and Primary 2 pupils have enjoyed getting muddy whilst developing various skills in outdoor education.
