Hallowe’en at Strachur Primary and Pre-5 Auto

strachur-halloween-4-nov-2016Well we had a ball last week for Hallowe’en at school. Everyone dressed up as you can see from our pictures. Prizes were awarded to Finlay (Ghostbuster), Sophie (clown), Leo (the Joker), Morven (zombie bride), Hamish (a pumpkin) and Alleah (Spidergirl). Staff were dressed up too – even Mr Campbell our chanter tutor!

Glasgow Science Centre Visit Strachur Primary

strachur-science-centre-6Strachur Primary pupils (and a few of our pre-5!) were delighted to have visitors from Glasgow Science Centre on Tuesday to teach us about how our bodies use oxygen.

Primary 1-4 participated in a workshop called ‘Go, Oxygen, Go!’ and P5-7 had ‘Get Active’. We found out where oxygen comes from, how it enters our body, how the body transfers it to our blood and it’s journey to our muscles. We took part in lots if fun experiments and learned many interesting facts.

Early Level Activities at Park

park-ps-forest-schools-2Park Primary 1 and Early Learning and Childcare Centre share learning experiences in Early Level activities. This term the activities took the children to Dunollie woods where they chose to learn about trees. Each group made friends with a tree and got to know their new friend really well(its name, shape of leaves, type of seeds, parts of a tree, bark pattern).

Grandparents’ Day at Rothesay Primary Pre5

grandparents-day7The boys and girls at Rothesay Primary Pre5 were delighted to welcome lots of grannies, grandpas, papas, grans, pops, nans and nanas to our nursery recently. As you can see, all our visitors were keen to join in the fun from painting to play dough to singing and dancing! They thought our nursery was a great place to learn and make new friends. Scottish Education Awards 2016

JLB Scottish Education award June 2016John Logie Baird Primary School and Pre Five Unit have been celebrating their success at the Scottish Education Awards 2016. They were delighted to be a top 3 finalist in the Learning through Technologies category at this year’s event. Judges from Education Scotland visited the school back in April and spoke to pupils, staff, parents and members of the community who were involved in their hugely successful Oscars Night and their innovative new Improving and Achieving report –

Keeping healthy at Kirn Primary School

Kirn PS Keeping Healthy 1One of the last whole school events held in the ‘old’ building of Kirn PS was our annual Health Week. Fun and informative health promoting events were organised for the whole week involving all ten classes and our Early Learning Childcare Centre. We were so lucky that lots of the health professionals in our community offered their time and expertise to lead sessions.

Yoga at Dalintober ELC

Dalintober Yoga 1 10 June 2016The children at Dalintober ELC recently participated in a ‘taster’ session of children’s Yoga, hosted by Rachel Edwards from Yoganadi. Yoga is a great activity to support children to relieve tension and stress, increase concentration and expand their imagination and creativity. We will continue to work in partnership with Rachel from Yoganadi through the next Academic Year and look forward to more fun and enjoyment from this worthwhile activity.

New Construction Area at Campbeltown ELC!

Sheena Stewart Mini MOK on Facebook for HomelinkThanks to Buildbase, children from Campbeltown ELC, Meadows Under Fives and the Kintyre Toy Library have been enjoying a fantastic new outdoor construction area at Campbeltown Nursery Centre.
Staff at the centre take great pride in promoting outdoor learning and are extremely grateful to Buildbase for supplying the gravel and ground sheeting to enable the area to be created. The site promotes an endless range of leaning activities and is proving to be very popular with all the children.

Toward and Innellan pupils go to the Capital.

Toward and Innellan Holyrood Park June 2016Pupils travelled through to Edinburgh to Holyrood Park where with the help of Rangers from Historic Scotland they travelled back in time to study the nature and type of volcanic activity was involved in shaping Arthurs Seat. They learnt the names for all the different parts of a volcano and were able to identify the different features in the surrounding landscape. They discussed and studied the best place to be if a volcano was about to erupt and decided to be as far away as possible especially as one of the Rangers mixed some vinegar and Bicarbonate of Soda to make a chemical reaction.

Colgrain Pre-5 Unit Fire Station visit

10On Monday 23rd May, Colgrain Pre-5 Unit boys and girls had a very exciting adventure to Helensburgh Fire Station. We have been learning about our local environment and the special roles that people play in it. We were taken on a tour of the Fire Station and got to see the sleeping quarters, the kitchen,the pole,the fire engines and we all got a shot of the hose! Mr Mussett also showed us the medical equipment that the firefighters use. When the morning boys and girls were there we got to see a real emergency call out – it was very exciting!
