Glasgow Science Centre Visit Strachur Primary
Strachur Primary pupils (and a few of our pre-5!) were delighted to have visitors from Glasgow Science Centre on Tuesday to teach us about how our bodies use oxygen.
Primary 1-4 participated in a workshop called ‘Go, Oxygen, Go!’ and P5-7 had ‘Get Active’. We found out where oxygen comes from, how it enters our body, how the body transfers it to our blood and it’s journey to our muscles. We took part in lots if fun experiments and learned many interesting facts.

Park Primary 1 and Early Learning and Childcare Centre share learning experiences in Early Level activities. This term the activities took the children to Dunollie woods where they chose to learn about trees. Each group made friends with a tree and got to know their new friend really well(its name, shape of leaves, type of seeds, parts of a tree, bark pattern).

Giant Walking Bus
Salen Primary School and ELCC pupils and staff had a lovely surprise during this year’s Giant Walking Bus. A vintage Model T Ford was sitting broken down in the car park. No sooner had we stopped to stare when lots of vintage Model T Fords drove through the village (slowly, of course) with drivers and passengers tooting and waving. After the other cars had passed the owners of the broken down car invited everyone to come and have a closer look.
Dalintober Primary and ELC Race for Life
A fantastic sum of £1276.88 was raised for Cancer Research UK as a result of the Race for Life held last week. Children, staff, parents and grandparents all joined in for a memorable afternoon on Kinloch Green. We were very grateful to the Campbeltown branch of Tesco for donating all the bottles of water for the event. The Primary 7s helped by encouraging and running with younger classes.

Keeping healthy at Kirn Primary School
One of the last whole school events held in the ‘old’ building of Kirn PS was our annual Health Week. Fun and informative health promoting events were organised for the whole week involving all ten classes and our Early Learning Childcare Centre. We were so lucky that lots of the health professionals in our community offered their time and expertise to lead sessions.
Yoga at Dalintober ELC
The children at Dalintober ELC recently participated in a ‘taster’ session of children’s Yoga, hosted by Rachel Edwards from Yoganadi. Yoga is a great activity to support children to relieve tension and stress, increase concentration and expand their imagination and creativity. We will continue to work in partnership with Rachel from Yoganadi through the next Academic Year and look forward to more fun and enjoyment from this worthwhile activity.

Toward and Innellan pupils go to the Capital.
Pupils travelled through to Edinburgh to Holyrood Park where with the help of Rangers from Historic Scotland they travelled back in time to study the nature and type of volcanic activity was involved in shaping Arthurs Seat. They learnt the names for all the different parts of a volcano and were able to identify the different features in the surrounding landscape. They discussed and studied the best place to be if a volcano was about to erupt and decided to be as far away as possible especially as one of the Rangers mixed some vinegar and Bicarbonate of Soda to make a chemical reaction.

Colgrain Pre-5 Unit Fire Station visit
On Monday 23rd May, Colgrain Pre-5 Unit boys and girls had a very exciting adventure to Helensburgh Fire Station. We have been learning about our local environment and the special roles that people play in it. We were taken on a tour of the Fire Station and got to see the sleeping quarters, the kitchen, the pole, the fire engines and we all got a shot of the hose!
