Home Learning Grid 27.4.20Ā Ā Week 4 Resources DiamondsĀ Ā Ā Week 4 Resources Stars

Good morning Primary 1,

We hope you had a lovely weekend in the sun. Perhaps you could ask an adult to help you add a comment to this post sharing what the best part of your weekend was? My best part was trying a new recipe which turned out pretty tasty and sitting in the garden to read a great book.

Our weekly learning grid and resources can be found on the school website in the Home Learning part of the Parent Zone, but I have also attached them at the top of this post for ease. Here are some related activities that you might like to explore at some point if it fits in with your routine.

Literacy:

Visit the website www.phonicsbloom.com and explore some of the word building games to help your reading and writing. In class, we have played ā€˜Fishy Phonicsā€™, ā€˜Odd and Bobā€™ and ā€˜Odd Sound Outā€™ but it is worth exploring some more of the available games and phases as there are lots of ways to challenge yourselves.

Numeracy:

This week we are focusing on fractions and on splitting whole objects into smaller parts of equal size.

Why not watch the following BBC Bitesize song about halving and quartering ā€“ https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/z6bq6sg – it has a nice focus on sharing!

If you want to take this further, you could give try sharing a some objects equally between two people, or splitting them in half. Tell an adult how you can make sure that sharing is fair and see if you can explain to them why halves must always be equal parts.

STEM:

We are continuing to learn about living things and their life cycles. Here is a song that you can join in and move to, while the words talk about some features of living things: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzN299RpJHA

We are looking forward to hearing about and/or seeing photos of any visual representations of life cycles that you make this week at home. You are all so creative, I am sure you will impress us!

Thank you for sending us lots of news, photos and questions ā€“ we are enjoying hearing and seeing what you are up to. We miss you all very much.

Take care and please remember ā€“ only do what you can; you know best how to organise home learning around your commitments and schedules, so please donā€™t feel under pressure and let us know if we can support you in any way.

Have a wonderful week,

Your P1 Teachers

HAPPY FRIDAY, 24th April 2020

Good Morning everyone,

I can’t believe it is Friday already! Thank you so much for your emails, photos and comments. I have been missing you all so have really enjoyed seeing all the different activities you have been getting up to, they put a big smile on my face. It looks like everyone has been working very hard and making wonderful memories at home.

Remember that any of the activities that we suggest, do not need to be printed, they are just ideas and can be written in your jotter or even outside. Make learning as fun and active as you can.

Please keep sending me pictures of what you have been up to or just a message to say hello.

We are all proud of all the work you have been doing.

I hope you have a lovely weekend and enjoy the beautiful weather! My boys and I are going to have a picnic dinner tonight and have a sack race.

Keep safe and looking forward to hearing from you next week.

Friday 24th April 2020

Good morning everybody,

Thank you so much for all your emails, photos and comments this week. I miss you all very much and so I am really enjoying hearing from you and seeing pictures of the fabulous learning and playing you are doing at home, and I am delighted to be able to answer any questions and support you however I can.

I have seen so many examples of your hard work, as well as hearing beautiful stories about the memories you are creating at home during this difficult time; cooking together, creating family quizzes, gardening, treasure hunts, going on walks and enjoying the Spring weather and flowers.

I saw a lovely picture yesterday that I wanted to share – it shows lots of everyday activities that are not only necessary and/or fun, but that contain a great deal of opportunities to learn and develop new skills too. I imagine you probably do lots of these already, so well done!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend – have you got anything nice lined up? I am planning on making a couple of new recipes, so I will let you know after the weekend how they turned out.

Take care and have fun,

Love Mrs Jamieson

Story Time From Home – Friday 24th April

Good morning everyone from sunny Bathgate! Hope it’s a nice day in Linlithgow too.

Here is the link to the last of this week’s dragon stories. Please make sure that you watch right to the end as I had to add a little bit on!

https://vimeo.com/411167888/249f1eb2d9

I think my favourite storyĀ  this week has been Dragon Stew but I did feel very sorry for the dragon when the Vikings were poking and hurting him.Ā  At least he got his own back in the end.

Please check Twitter later today for this week’s awesome achiever’s.Ā  You’ll need to use your really good looking skills as remember I can’t include and names or photographs of your lovely faces!

Stay safe and enjoy the weekend.

Miss McDermott

Happy Friday!

Good Morning Primary 1,

Another week of home learning has passed and you have all been very busy. I have really enjoyed all the pictures and videos I have been sent – they made me smile. Please keep sending me pictures of what you are up to, or even just a note to say hello.

Remember that nothing has to be printed out at all- if we attach a sheet it is just to give you ideas and can be written into your child’s jotter. A good way to reduce, reuse and recycle after celebrating World Earth Day!

Our new weekly learning grid will be issued on Monday and will be available on the website and on here. A useful tip is to screenshot or download it so you have it handy.

Finally- have a lovely weekend in this beautiful weather and enjoy some family time.

Keep safe and I will speak to you on Monday,

Mrs MenmuirĀ Ā

Thursday 23rd April 2020

Good afternoon P1,

I hope you have had a nice morning. Thank you for sending us so many lovely photos of you learning and playing. It is great to see the creative things you have been doing at home. Have a look at the school twitter page tomorrow to see what children in the rest of our school have been doing too.

I wonder if any of you tried an activity to practise throwing and catching. Let us know in the comments if you did. I took my little dog Bennie down to our garden at lunchtime and tried to play a throwing game with him – the only trouble is that he won’t bring anything back! Here is a little video of us playing ‘fetch’ just for fun!

Take care and have a wonderful afternoon and evening,

Your P1 Teachers

What emotion?

I know how good Primary one are at playing the drama emotion game and pass the smile, so why don’t you show your family how to play.

Use those wonderful facial expressions to show different emotions. Will you be happy, angry, sad or excited? Can you use your body to show the emotion too? When would you feel these emotions? What would happen toĀ  make you feel this way?

There are some great emotion songs you could sing along with too.

To practise some calm and relaxation you could also try some Cosmic kids yoga to The hungry Caterpillar.

Remember to keep sending in your photos of some of the learning you have been doing at home.Ā  We love seeing all of the activities you have been getting up to!

Have a lovely day!

Story Time from Home – Thursday 23rd April

Hello everyone! Did you find the connection between today and a dragon story? If you were at school in England you would probably know this because St George is the special saint of England just like St Andrew is our special saint here in Scotland. Another name for this is the patron saint. I wonder if you can find out any other patron saints?

Below is a link to a short video all about St George and the dragon which I think you might enjoy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YuVzOK89EA

And here is the link to today’s story time from home which is all about dragons. I hope that you enjoy this too and have started to think about what you could write for your own dragon stories.

https://vimeo.com/410760871/7bc04d9eae

Below is a photograph of some planet Earth crafts that some boys made at the hub school in Bathgate with me yesterday.Ā  Don’t they look great?

The words at the bottom say reduce, reuse and recycle.

Thank you again for all your photos and messages. I will share some of these on Twitter at the end of the week but please remember grown ups I can’t post anyĀ  photographs withĀ  faces or names.

Good Morning Primary one

I hope you had a good day yesterday and enjoyed doing World Earth day activities.

We hope that you have been staying active during your time at home and making the most of the lovely sunshine we have been having.

Why not try practising your throwing and catching today. Try passing an object back and forth with a grown up or a sibling. If you start to find it easy, move further apart to make it trickier.

Or why not try the bucket toss. Roll up some socks and throw them into a bucket. How many can you get in in a row?Ā  You could also make it harder by throwing them into a smaller hole. I used an old cardboard box to make a bunny toss. Remember don’t give up if you find it hard, keep going!

What other throwing and catching games can you think of?

Have fun!

World Earth Day!

Good afternoon boys and girls!

We hope that you have all been busy enjoying our planet in celebration of World Earth Day and we canā€™t wait to see any models you have made. If you are looking for more things to keep you busy please click on the links below as there are some really interesting and fun activities to do such as creating your own terrarium or making up your own stories. You can even earn a Blue Peter Badge by drawing your own pet, or one you would like to have!

We have included a story from space as it shows you how small our plant is from so far away. Please remember that you do not have to do all the activities suggested these are just ideas.

Earth Day 2020 – Climate Action

Good morning Primary One,

I hope you had a lovely day yesterday and managed to make the most of the beautiful sunshine. We have really enjoyed receiving some photos of the amazing learning and playing you have been doing at home – well done and keep up the great work!
Today is a special day – it is Earth Day 2020 and it is the 50th anniversary of this day. Earth Day is a day where we try to take some time to think about how amazing our planet is and the things that we can do to help it.
If it fits into your routine today, you could look through this Power Point with an adult and have a chat about the parts that interest you or that you would like to know more about.
The Power Point talks about the importance of recycling – I wonder if you could try to make something new out of old packaging material to give it a second life? Send us a photo or let us know in the comments what you have learned about Earth Day or what you decided to create!
Our planet is truly amazing – look at this beautiful Spring blossom near my home,. It made me smile!
Our learning grid/resources for this week are still on the LPS website and if you scroll back a little you will also find a PowerPoint with more related learning activities. We understand that everyone’s situation is different just now, so find a routine that works for your family and please don’t feel any pressure! Let us know if we can support you in any way.
Take care and have a great day,

Story Time from Home – Wednesday 22nd April Earth Day

Here is today’s Story Time from Home link.Ā  I have chosen this story not just because it’s about dragons but because today is Ā Earth Day and the story is about caring, sharing and working together.

https://vimeo.com/410326790/42f973820b

Below is also a short powerpoint explaining a little bit about Earth Day and a little activity you might want to do aboutĀ  looking after the planet Earth.

https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/us-t-318-earth-day-powerpoint

Even if you can’t print the activity off, I am sure you could make your own version and maybe you could even send me a photograph if you are able to.

Today I am working at one of the hub schools in Bathgate so I won’t be able to reply to any emails or messages immediately – please be patientĀ  though and I will get back to you when I can !

Ladybird Doubles to 10Ā Ā Ladybird Doubles to 20

Good afternoon everyone,

We hope you have had a lovely morning and perhaps managed to get out into the sunshine to create a symmetrical picture. Send us a photo if you would like us to have a look at yours!

Did you know that theĀ spots on a ladybird’s wings are symmetrical, though a ladybird can have an “odd” spot which actually spans both wings?

You can find out more facts about ladybirds on this website if you are interested: http://www.storybug.net/kids.html

I have attached two challenges for you to explore if it fits into your routine sometime this week – count the spots on one side of each ladybird on the sheet, tell an adult how many you think will be on the other side and see if you can work out how many spots each ladybird will have altogether.

Remember that ladybird spots are symmetrical andĀ use what you know about doubles to help you!

Please don’t feel you need to print this sheet off – it can be a verbal activity!

Good luck šŸ™‚
