VE day fun!

I would love to say that I have a talent for cake decoration – as some of our staff do!  I really don’t !!

But I had fun icing these biscuits – and will have even more fun eating them!!

I am now going to learn a VE day dance

https://www.facebook.com/123490381172089/videos/690304565153861/

and then observe the 2 minutes silence at 11.00am!

I would love to know what you do to celebrate!

It’s a special day today. On the 8th of May 75 years ago the Second World War ended. There were lots of celebrations then and today lots of people are remembering and celebrating too. You might want to make your own bunting (a kind of flag) to hang up.

Have a lovely week end. See you next Friday!

P3- Friday 8th May

Happy Friday P3, hope everyone is safe and well. The weather has been lovely and I hope you have all managed to play outdoors during your daily exercise.

Today marks 75 years since the end of the Second World War in Europe. Miss Taylor has posted ideas on the blog on how to celebrate this event and also a writing task for you to complete.

Science

We are going to explore food chains today. Do you know what that is and why it is important to be aware of food chains?? Talk through your ideas with a grown up. If you are not sure then hopefully the following clip will help develop your understanding:

Now I would like you to make your own food chain. Perhaps you could research food chains in the ocean and then try to make a food chain mobile. I have attached the instructions.

Practical food chain mobile

Maths

We are continuing to learn about measure and how to use our knowledge of measure in everyday life. I have attached measure challenge cards for you to try. Make ask a grown up to help you.

measure challenge cards- mild

I have found a game linked to measure on education city. Log in, click on subjects, click on maths then first with two stars and then a range of games will appear. Click on desk assessment and it’s a game about working out the differences in measuring objects, have fun!!

P.E.

Why not finish your lessons with some Go Noodle, I know you enjoy this with Mrs Hillan during PE. I have attached a link to one of your favourites, I’m sure!!

Have a lovely weekend P3 and I will check in with you next Friday.

Primary One – Friday 8th May 2020

Good Morning Everyone! Free Friday Clipart, Download Free Clip Art, Free Clip Art on ... Happy Friday!

I hope you are well and have been enjoying the beautiful warm sunny weather.

Activity 1 – Edinburgh Zoo – live webcam

I hope you enjoyed the WWF challenge (to make a habitat) and look forward to seeing pictures of your completed models. I thought today it might be good to drop into see how the penguins at Edinburgh Zoo are getting on without any visitors. As you know Zoos are closed at the moment but there is a live webcam set up so you can watch them from your home. I have been watching them and they are just amazing! Click on the link below

Activity 2 – Arts and Crafts CRAFT CUP, CLIP ART | Art clipart, Crafts

L.I. to  use a range of media creatively

S.C. I can use my tearing skills to create the owls feathers

If we were at school we would be looking at forests and woodland creatures and I know one creature that we all would like to find out more about would be owls. So lets begin by making one.

Firstly draw an owl shape (see in the picture)

Then tear different colours of paper and stick them onto your owl shape. Cut out yellow eyes, break and feet. Stick them on and cut round the owl shape. Easy! Enjoy

Activity 3- Topic

L.I. to search for information

S.C.I can record 3 interesting facts about owls

Try to find out 3 interesting facts about owls and record your findings on a fact file. If you have any books at home they may be useful or ask an adult to help you search online. One fact that I found out was that Owls ears are unlike our ears. They are located at the side of their heads but one ear is higher than the other.  I have made one that you can copy into your jotter, or make your own.

Have a fantastic weekend, keep safe! More activities on Monday.

Happy Friday! Here are some fun activities to finish off the week!

VE Day

Victory in Europe Day is a day to give thanks and remember those people that fought in wars so we could have the freedom we experience today. This day is celebrated as it is the day that Germany surrendered during World War II. Watch the video below for some more information.

During the video, the lady talks about medals that soldiers were presented with after the war. Your task today is to create your very own medal! I have attached photos of real medals for inspiration, as well as a template for you to copy or print to design your medal. Think about what your medal could be for and remember to make the ribbon nice and colourful! Maybe you could create a unique pattern on your ribbon!

P5/6 Friday 8th May

P5/6 Friday 8th May

Fun Friday!

I am going to copy each day’s “Daily Plan” ( I have changed the name from “Read Me First”) document from Team’s “Files” into the blog as some of you have been having difficulties accessing it. I hope this helps. However it seems as though I can not put in some materials into the blog that I can into Teams. I don’t think that your issues have been about accessing Teams, more about downloading stuff????

Spelling activity: choose a list of Fry’s words that is appropriate for yourself. Create a Word document with a table of 2 columns and 25 rows. Write your chosen 25 words in the first column. Using a dictionary, on-line or book, put a definition of the word in the second column next to it. I have created an example to support you if you are not sure how to do this. I have created a dedicated folder in “Files” for this work. Please include your name as part of the file name to differentiate it from the others. Thomas and Ethan thank you for the work you have done. Please try to do another set of more challenging words. I have also created the first in a series of “HotPotatoes” activities, generated from the spelling work Thomas had produced. Please try it and tell me what you think. I am going to try to put together another activity, using a different part of “HotPotatoes” and will use the list Ethan generated. If you would like to experiment with making your own “HotPotatoes” quizzes here is a link https://hotpot.uvic.ca/. I will be using it more in the future, and will give a “teach” on how to use it.

The use of Teams went really well this week, thank you. I have tidied up “Files” and, I think, made it easier to use and find things. Please let me know if you have any issues with it.

Keep your personal projects going- you still have the folder to post them into – please check out the work Thomas, Ethan and Zoey have already put in there.

Topic – Read Ethan’s “Broons” story and Thomas’s “Oor Wullie” and “Broons” stories. Challenge: can you do better? Think about interesting ways to present these stories. Please post any ideas you have so we can discuss them. What about making a film? I have created a dedicated folder for this work in “Files” as well.

Continue to focus on money in maths first and then move onto measure. This will help progress your work on decimals to 3 places.

Money Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 7
Measure Chapter 15 Chapter 13a Chapter 13

Use the book that is most relevant to you – like “chili questions”. Do it like we do in class – don’t feel the need to do every question, just do enough to show yourself that you have understood. Check your answers in the back as you need. And Please contact me for support when you need to.

Education City: You all appear to still have quite a lot of unfinished activities so I will wait until I publish some more.

Logan S suggested growing your own vegetables as a health project. Ethan has also now started growing strawberries. Anyone else?

Keep your daily diary going, recording what you are doing, what exercise you do, what you eat and how you feel.

Continue to practise your French using the resources from the link below: https://powerlanguage.courses/forfamilies/french/

Don’t forget to do the day’s activities on BBC “Bitesize”.

And exercise with Joe (or his girlfriend!?)  https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/joinin/bp-joe-wicks-workout

Take care all of you.
