Primary 1

Primary 1’s Spectacular Scottish Showcase

Primary 1 had a super afternoon, showcasing their learning to their parents.

We began with a short presentation, telling the mummies and daddies lots of things that we have learnt about Scotland.

‘Glasgow is famous because they build big ships [on the river Clyde]’ – Gabrielle

‘Tartan is a pattern’ – Shay

‘Heid means head’ – Tavia

‘Edinburgh Castle was build on top of an old volcano’ – Grady 

‘The Falkirk Wheel is like a big lift for boats’ – Liam

 

We then put our parents to work!!!

Some of the things they had to do, included making thistles; designing a tartan pattern; translating Scottish words; marking Edinburgh on a map and drawing a picture of Edinburgh Castle.

 

We had such a lovely time. It really was great seeing so many parents in our classroom. Thank you all so much for coming!!

We have a right to an education

Last term Primary 6 learned all about Europe.  We split into different countries, so we could find out about one country in depth, then share our findings with the rest of the class.    We then decided to open up our classroom as a Trade Fare and present to other classes.  It was all very interactive, with exploding volcanoes, board games, language lessons, songs and even cake and chocolate!

Magic showcase

Primary 4 would like to thank all parents and members of their families for coming to our showcase on Friday. We had a great day and enjoyed showing you all of our hard work.

Well done to Ethan’s mum for getting the closest to the number of spiders in the hatchery. She guessed 63. A total of 77 spiders are hatching in our class!

Also well done to Sterling’s dad for creating the winning mythical creature. It was a hard job to decide on a winner so we took a class vote.

Your prizes are on the way home. Thank you to all the people who took part in our activities. We had great fun showing them to you.

Annie – a memorable performance

Our education allows us to share our talents.

This week the school has been ringing out with music, as the stars of the school production of ‘Annie’ were able to share their hard work with their friends and family. The cast, who have been working hard on the show for only seven weeks, performed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week to packed audiences.

Set in 1930s New York, Annie tells the story of an eleven-year-old girl, who has been living in the horrid Miss Hannigan’s orphanage for girls her whole life. She has the dream that one day she will be reunited with the parents who left her a letter and a locket so many years ago. Annie’s quest to find her real parents and the adoption by the billionaire businessman Oliver Warbucks is what provides dramatic plot for this spectacular and heart-warming musical.

We would like to thank all the parents, grandparents and friends who have donated their time, props, costumes, and for supporting learners in their learning of lines and dance routines.

Every single performer gave everything they had, helping to make this production so successful.

Thanks are due to all the staff who helped with auditions, rehearsals and backstage. Of course, the entire performance could not have happened if it were not for all the brilliantly talented actors, actresses and chorus who helped to make the event so memorable. Well done everyone!

Equal Rights for All

On Wednesday 26th of March, West Lothian Council hosted an event to showcase the excellent work in the areas of Children’s Rights & Equalities across the region at Inveralmond Community High School.
Along with Mrs Buchanan-Coutts, Mandipa, Kerys, Carrick, Daniel, Mark and Chloe represented St Nicholas.
We set up our stand, sharing just a snippet of the rights education carried out at our school, including the  recent P2 and P2/1 diversity assembly, Send My Friend to School resources, world trade day and Famous Fridays, then prepared ourselves for questions from the vast amount of people who had turned up, including Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People, Tam Baillie.
There was a little bit of time for us to have a look at the excellent work that some of the other schools are doing before Daniel and Carrick, very confidently, stood up in front of the auditorium and introduced the Primary 5 assembly and showed a clip from the DVD of the children singing the Every Child has Rights song.
Chloe and Mark then shared with everyone, their experiences of the digital rights programme they took part in as part of their transition to St Margaret’s academy.

It was a great morning and we definitely showed how, through our work, we contribute to Getting it Right for Every Child.

Welcome to Inverness Tourist Information Centre!

Primary 5 transformed their classes into tourist information centres for the city of Inverness!

We sent letters to Miss Sweeney at the real tourist information centre in  the city and she replied sending lots of fantastic information, from how to welcome people, questions to ask tourists, leaflets about attractions in the highlands and the layout of her building!

We displayed lots of information on the walls, created characters to work in our centres and even created a gift shop with lots of wonderful nessie figures and post cards for sale! At the Scottish Showcase we invited our parents to visit our centres to find out lots about the city! We also had a Highland Cafe serving haggis, oatcakes and of course Irn Bru!  The event was opened by Paige and Rachael dancing the Highland Fling! Some people spoke to parents about the Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club, showing them highlights from the last game and giving lots of information about the club!

Some people were telling our visitors about the Scottish Whiskey industry and the very important job of a coppersmith! Some people where showing parents our own mini version of Urquart Castle and telling them some key facts about Inverness! Another group were showcasing our historic portraits of Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Red Coat Army and were looking at the battle of Culloden! Lastly we asked parents to participate in the St Nicholas Highland games! The activities were: chuck the welly, toss the caber, strength test and toss the hay! We even had a trophy for the Champion!  To round up the event Oliver played the bagpipes to a cheering crowd!
