Primary 1 & 2’s Library Visit

Today, primary 1 and 2 had a fantastic afternoon. We visited the local library. We met the author and the lead character of the children’s books Badger The Mystical Mutt.

Badger is a large black and white dog, who loves toast, and is awfully cheeky! He is also very good at magic. We watched him perform a number of magic tricks, in between annoying Laura, the author.

We also listened to a short extract from the first book.

It really was a brilliant afternoon. Thank you so much to the library and to Laura and Badger.

P3 and P3/2 visit to the Library

Today Primary 3 and 3/2 went to Broxburn Library to learn more about Egypt. Diane in the library dressed up as Tutankhamen and told us lots of interesting facts.

Here are some of the amazing facts she told us.

Isla M – Tutankhamen died when he was 19 years old.
Millie – they but cone on a ladies head then burst it to get perfume on the lady.
Molly – ladies wore a tunic and man wore a kind if kilt.
Hubert – Tutankhamen was a pharaoh when he was only 8 years old.
Emily – the rich drank beer and the poor people drank wine.
Harris – Narmer the pharaoh united upper and lower Egypt.
Marta – Cleopatra died when she got bitten buy a snake.
Luke – poor people had house with one room, rich people had houses with up to 70 rooms.
Callum – Cleopatra was the last pharaoh of Egypt.
Kordian – Osiris brother killed him.
Nicola – Tutankhamun died because he had an infection in his leg.
Clara – Egypt was split into two different kingdoms – upper and lower Egypt.
Freya – Egyptians removed their brain through their nose when they died.
Isla G – Isis’s husband was the first mummy.

Thank you to all our helpers for coming with us. We had a great afternoon and learned lots of interesting facts.

Learning at the Library!

On Wednesday afternoon, all the Primary 4 children visited Broxburn Library.  We listened carefully to Diane sharing information about the Vikings.

Patryk – I found out some Viking names and the houses would have been dark because there were no windows.

Nia – I learned that children could get married as young as 12.

Cameron H – Viking houses had one large hole in the roof that allowed the smoke from the fire to escape.  They did not have any windows so the Vikings would have been hot in the warm months.

Lewis – Vikings did not have Sir names.

Elise D – The boats they travelled in were called long boats.

Adrian – The Vikings wore plain clothes.

Alanna – Some Viking men dyed their hair blond.

Anya – Vikings dyed their clothes using dye from plants.

Learning is fun at the local library!

Primaries 3 and 3/2 visited Broxburn library to find out about our new topic The Romans.  The friendly librarian, Diane, prepared posters which included lots of interesting information about life in Roman times.  Diane was dressed up as a Roman and she invited Ehlana and Sean to dress up too.  They wore a toga and a head piece made from a plant.  Traditionally, Romans wore sandals with laces tied around their legs.  We enjoyed our visit to the library and Diane made the learning fun!  We brought books and posters back to school to continue our learning.  This is going to be a great topic!
