Our Week in St Nicholas ELC
It’s been another fantastic week for everyone at St Nichols ELC. There has been lots of amazing learning and lots of new and exciting discoveries made. The children are continuing to do amazing at establishing routines and it’s wonderful to see them feeling comfortable and secure within the ELC environment.
Whilst playing in the outdoor area the children have noted that we have a family of birds, they have enjoyed observing the birds and there’s been lots of interesting conversation about the family of birds. The children have been feeding the birds and taking good care of them. The children also noted some seasonal change which they have enjoyed chatting about during mat time. There has been lots of interesting observations made such as; feeling colder and leaves falling from the trees. Through lots of interesting conversation the children decided the birds might need a nest to keep warm. In order to extend the children’s learning we decided to listen to the story of the Owl Babies. After listening to the story the children thought it would be fun to make their own nests. In order to do this they collected some twigs, feathers and leaves. They all helped to make an amazing little display which included Sarah, Percy and Bill. The children have loved this, it has given them the opportunity to use their creativity and engage in some fantastic imaginary role play. This has also been a fantastic opportunity for the children to observe seasonal change and opened up lots of opportunity for us to explore Autumn. We also discovered that it was the first day of autumn on Tuesday. We are all looking forward to learning more about Autumn.
The children have also been continuing to enjoy learning about how to keep ourselves healthy. This week the children have been enjoying lots of healthy fruit snacks. They even had the opportunity to make their very own smoothies. The children absolutely loved this. They chopped up fruit and worked collaboratively to make delicious smoothies. This was a real treat. Well done everyone!
