Today Primary 5 made some scientific investigations using candy canes. First of all we placed one candy cane in a cup of cold water. We made a hypothesis regarding what would happen within 5 minutes and recorded our observations during that time frame. We repeated the experiment using warm water and then again using oil. We were interested to find out if our predictions would be correct. Then we watched a short clip showing the manufacture of a candy cane. Finally we were then able to draw our conclusions based on the information about the ingredients as to why the candy cane dissolved in water.

Several children were keen to repeat this experiment at home using different solutions such as milk, fizzy juice, vinegar and fruit juice. I wonder what will happen ?
