Khayla prepared a
n excellent lesson based on the Titanic. The class used biscuits and icing to recreate their own boats.
They were wonderful to make and even nicer to eat afterwards!
P5/6 A made carbon Dioxide today.
In groups we measured vinegar into a bottle and placed baking soda into a balloon. We then placed the balloon carefully onto the top of the bottle. When we tipped the powder into the vinegar, it fizzed rapidly, and made CO2. The balloon inflated and we measured it’s circumference.
We then filled another balloon with a similar amount of air and dropped them both from a height. Mrs Abraham helped us up one at a time in each group to test our balloons.
We found out which gas was heavier, carbon dioxide or air, what do you think?
P5/6A have been extremely lucky to be involved in some super music lessons where they will learn to play an instrument in an up and coming concert.
This week some of us tried out the trombone. Each week a different group will try out a different instrument.
Great photos Charley, our photographer this week.
Congratulations again to all who participated in the races on Tuesday 6th February.

This week at Science Club we were learning about why some objects sink in water and why other objects float. As a starter, we watched a SGI version of the Titanic ship sinking and why one side of the ship started sinking first . We carried out a class experiment and made predictions if the objects would float or sink.
The children then had to work in teams or individually to create their own floating device. Here you can see the children hard at work!
We had lots of fun finding if our creation could float! We all made predictions first and we all enjoyed being right.
The Science Club members were very proud of their creations and wanted you see them too!
I hope everyone enjoys the holiday and we will start back for more fun on Tuesday 20th February.

P5/6 have produced some amazing homework based on their Titanic topic.
Bailey and Ryan had a quick draw Titanic lesson to win a prize.
Orla prepared the most amazing Iceberg cupcakes to decorate in class.
Mrs Abraham really enjoyed eating her cake!
We had to put cream icing on top of a lovely homemade cake.
Then we shaped and placed blue icing on top for the sea.
We then used a tool to cut white icing into an iceberg shape to place on top of the sea.
P5/6A have been learning about Floating and Sinking.
Firstly we made various shapes from plasticine .
We then made predictions about their abilities to float or sink and then tested these predictions in water.
After testing the shapes we were given, we were then asked to use what we had learned to make a shape that would both float and could carry an object without sinking.
After a few clues and a few sinking shapes we all found at least one shape that would stay afloat while holding an object and we had great fun!
