Rights Respecting Schools

Rights Respecting Schools Pupil Steering Group

We have had a very busy time campaigning and making a positive difference to children’s rights as we continue in our journey to achieve silver accreditation.

As part of our Rights Respecting Schools program we have been engaging in some campaigning work through UNICEFS ‘Outright’ campaign.  Children learned about Climate change, climate action, and steps they can take to tackle the issue of climate change. Pupils developed an understanding of the impact climate change has on the rights of children globally.  Pupils from p2 upwards created a campaign poster or wrote a letter to the UK delegation attending the Global Plastic Treaty negotiations held in Ottawa in April 2024.  These were all  taken by the representatives from Tearfund, an international development organisation, and passed on to the UK delegates for consideration.

Primary 1 pupils worked together to write letters to our local councillors encouraging them to allow the school to create a wildflower area on the school grounds to encourage biodiversity, a key element of looking after the environment.  We are still working on making this happen.
