Bikeability

Level 2 Bikeability (Session 23/24)

This year 31 primary 6 students will be taking part in their level 2 bike ability training. This training will allow them to develop their cycling skills on the road over 8 weeks. Within these 8 weeks, the children will be exploring:

  • Bike and helmet safety checks
  • The all-important, life saver look
  • How to safely start and stop when joining and exiting the road
  • Understand and use a range of hand signals while on the road
  • Primary and secondary road positions
  • Passing a side road
  • Overtaking a parked car
  • U-turn
  • Left turns from a minor road to a major road and vice versa
  • Right turn from a minor road to a major road and vice versa
  • Undertake a range of theory-based work before putting it into practice on the road

Level 1 Bikeability (Session 21/22)

Last session many of our pupils completed Bikeability level 1!  All pupils grew in confidence over the sessions.  They practiced getting pedal ready, keeping a safe distance from the cyclist in front, balancing, stopping safely and turning left and right in the school playground.  All pupils had a great time. This year, Level 1 will run for our Primary 5 pupils in Term 4.
