Happy New Year!
Primary 7 and Mrs Green are looking forward to an exciting term ahead. We are continuing with our P7 leadership roles and showing fantastic enthusiasm during our weekly preparation time. We always aim to do our best.
January starts us off with immersing ourselves in the Scottish theme, learning to recite an extract from Tam O’Shanter, preparing and performing during our annual Burns Supper, where we will be dancing, singing, reciting poems and speeches. In class, we will be looking at the work of a Scottish Artist, Gillian Kyle, and create art pieces in the pop art style, and learning to play a Scottish song or two on the Ukulele with our Music teacher, Mrs Coleman. We will share all our fabulous work with you on Twitter.
In Term 3, we will continue with Talk for Writing to help develop our fictional writing skills. Accelerated Reading is being implemented daily and after each book we complete the relevant quiz aiming to achieve at least 70% and above. All children have chosen a Literature Circle Book and will work in small groups to organise the weeks reading and complete the relevant role e.g. summariser, discussion director, illustrator, investigator etc. You will see weekly reading set in our Teams homework.
Within Numeracy, we will be developing our knowledge and understanding of fractions, percentages and decimals, data handling/statistics, money and continue to develop our skills in calculating problems using the four operations. Twice a week, we will complete daily ten questions to recap previous learning. This is to help keep all of it fresh in our memory! It is important in all our lessons we make the link to real life situations, identifying why we are learning this.
Our main topic in Term 3 will be World War 2, focussing on why it started, what happened during the war and when it ended. During the topic, children will have an opportunity to take an aspect of WW2 and create a solo/pair talk on their chosen subject.
Keep a look out on our class Team and Twitter for Primary 7 updates.
