Welcome to Primary 7E!
We are a class of 23 pupils who are enthusiastic, hardworking and ready to make the most of our final year at primary school. Our teacher is Mrs Edmiston, and throughout the year we will continue to follow our school values of being Ready, Respectful and Safe in everything we do.
Primary 7 is a very exciting year with lots of opportunities for leadership, responsibility and preparing for the transition to secondary school. As the oldest pupils in the school, we all have an important leadership role and are proud to contribute to our school community. Every Friday, we will take part in Leadership, working on our individual roles, developing new skills and making a positive difference around the school.
Throughout the year, we will receive homework each month to support and reinforce our learning in class. Homework will be shared on Microsoft Teams, so please keep an eye out for updates and important information.
In Literacy, we will enjoy a range of book studies, including Letters from the Lighthouse and Divided City, alongside other high-quality texts which will inspire our reading, writing and class discussions. Through our reading and writing lessons, we will explore important themes, develop our comprehension skills and become confident communicators.
In Maths, we will build our confidence through a range of activities, games and problem-solving challenges. We will develop our skills in number, money, fractions, measure and data handling while using our learning in real-life contexts. We will work together, share our ideas and challenge ourselves to do our best.
Our interdisciplinary learning topics this year include Big Business, where we will take part in the exciting Make £5 Grow enterprise challenge; The Sixties, where we will explore life in the 1960s while celebrating Coylton Primary School’s 60th anniversary and learning about the history of our school; and World War II, where we will investigate key events, experiences and the impact of the war on people’s lives.
There will be plenty of opportunities to develop new skills across the curriculum. We will enjoy British Sign Language lessons with Mrs Caira, participate in French live lessons and take part in a variety of learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom. We are also fortunate to have a residential stay at Dolphin House, where we will build confidence, teamwork and resilience.
In PE, we will develop our fitness, teamwork and sports skills throughout the year. We are particularly looking forward to tennis coaching at Coylton Tennis Courts during Terms 1 and 4, where we will learn and develop a range of tennis techniques.
Music will continue to be an important part of our year. Mr Thompson, our vocal coach, joins us each week as we prepare for two exciting musical showcases, one at Christmas and another in June. Following our fantastic performance of Mamma Mia at the end of the 2025/26 session, we are also looking forward to a special trip to see Mamma Mia at the Kings Theatre as soon as we return to school in August.
We are excited for the year ahead and can’t wait to take part in all the learning, leadership opportunities and memorable experiences that make Primary 7 so special.
