Primary 1A

By Nieve

Our teacher this year is Miss Young and we have 22 children in our class. We are learning to be safe and respectful in the playground and classroom. P1A love learning outdoors in the different weather and enjoy keeping active. We are good at showing our friends and adults in the school that we are ready to learn.

This term we are learning:

In literacy we are using our knowledge of the new sounds we are learning to spell and write words independently.  We are also practising reading and writing our tricky words. Some of us are beginning to read books… others are almost ready to have their own book! There are lots of independent writing activities in our class and we are beginning to write our own simple sentences. This term we will making story maps and creating our own characters through exploring the story “The Papaya That Spoke”. We will also be writing instructions on how to build a model of something Scottish which we will be sharing with the EYC children.

In maths we are continuing to build our knowledge of number and will be exploring addition and subtraction. We will also be learning about fractions and shape this term.

In Health and Wellbeing, we will be improving our movement skills, including throwing and catching. We now have PE lessons in the gym hall once a week as well as outdoors. As part of our Scottish focus, we will be learning Scottish dancing. We love being outdoors and have explored freezing and melting, den building and lots of splashing in the puddles! When we are outdoors, we demonstrate how to be safe on the climbing frames and in the changing weather. Primary One continue to learn about managing feelings and will be learning about safety with medicines this term.

There will be lots of different learning opportunities through our Scottish Topic this term.We will be learning Scottish songs, dances and poems which we will share at our Early Level Burns Supper. Primary One would like to learn about Scottish food and will be exploring food journeys. They’d also like to learn about Scottish famous people, especially scientists and artists!

Children will be learning coding this term using a variety of resources. They continue to use technology to enhance learning and use the interactive whiteboard, iPads and computers.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if there’s anything you’d like to discuss.
