Primary 6

By Millie

Primary 6 cannot believe we are in our final term of Primary 6! Where does the time go when you are having fun?

Literacy

In term 4, our class will engage in literature circles, working collaboratively to develop our fluency and reading comprehension. Each week, pupils will take on different roles, allowing them to explore different aspects of the text and develop a range of reading skills. The roles include:

  • Quiz Maker: creating literal questions to quiz their group.
  • Artist: visualising scenes or characters from the text through drawings and annotating their work.
  • Summariser: condensing key plot points and themes into a summary
  • Investigator: researching information discussed in the text and creating a mini report
  • Question Maker: inferential and evaluative questions to allow children to think a little deeper.
  • Vocab Detective: finding challenging words to find their meanings and sharing this with their group.

Our writing focus will centre around personal writing, encouraging pupils to express their thoughts, feelings, and experiences through various forms of writing. Throughout the term, we will continue to be involved in short burst writing to further develop our punctuation, literary devices, and descriptive language. All pupils are continuing to make good progress as we continue with our daily phonics lessons.

Numeracy and Mathematics

We will continue to develop our number and number processes through solving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems. During the month of May, we will be involved in the Sumdog Times Table challenge.

A range of concepts will also be taught this term:

  • Information Handling
  • Measure: weight, length, volume, area, and perimeter.
  • Symmetry
  • Patterns and Relationships

Other Curricular Areas

Last term we developed a good understanding of the Victorian era, and we will now investigate the inventions that were created during this period and how this has impacted us now. Children will have the opportunity to focus on one and be able to create a 3D model of it and how they see this improving in the future.

We will also be extremely busy getting ready to present our P6 and 7 showcase. We will be working with Mr Thomson our music specialist and e will share our fabulous performance with you in June. Exciting times ahead.

Keep checking X to see our fabulous work and achievements. šŸ˜Š
